Who chooses the first snow of the year as the day to drive 180mi to hibernate their cars for the winter? These 2 guys!

Leaving this morning from the west burbs was the best weather by far, only got (much) worse from there!
The fierce West winds made me want to top of with gas before going, just to be sure. In the first 3mi cars got between Mark and I but I kept going to the gas station. We got crossed up on the walkies and I passed mark waiting for me and he didn't see me. In the first 15min we spent about 17min waiting for each other...
But then we finally reunited.

I drive this route all the time out to Iowa since the shop is back there, hwy 64 most of the way as it dead ends in my hometown.

Big pile of corn.

I completely get it but I would not want to be 180 miles away from either one of those cars I don’t care what season it is!

Happy hibernation.
I am done for the season as well.
I didn’t have that far. Just around town for a few errands to warm it up to change oil before parking.
Got it in before the snow

For sure - I wish the shop was just out the door. I have a decent amount of equipment in my house garage but having to go 4hrs to get to the shop makes my projects drag on and on. The Fury has sat a couple years now because I just can't get back there enough.

It was really windy, mostly head on but some cross wind as well. It took us awhile to settle into a stride where we were comfortable and getting our train passing slow pokes (Mark's wife was in the chase vehicle to bring us back home). We ran our way through Sycamore and ran ourselves up to a garbage semi. (I didn't take a photo of that view out the windshield) I was afraid we might be stuck behind him to a dumping station that is out in the middle of nowhere but luckily we were able to get an opening for us all to pass. I was not looking forward to the dirty mess he would have kicked up on the damp roads.

Next up was Oregon, IL, and with that comes about 1/8mi of 4 lane where you have a chance to overtake slowpokes...if you have the guts to grossly speed inside the city limits. Unfortunately for us, the folks in front of us decided to run stronger there than they were on the open road so there was no reasonable way to get 3 of us past them. Oh the gamesmanship on 2 lane roads!

First stop for us (for the people, not the cars) was Casey's in Lanark, IL. We had all been enjoying our heaters and were in surprisingly cozy confines until we got out for the pit stop. Wow, winter had hit us! Quick back into the cars and back on the road.

And then we started to hit some real snow showers. Some day I might actually get the clip that holds the wiper arms to the motor...

Next stop was the memorial at savanna IL before going over the bridge.
It's maybe been 5-7 yrs since they opened the new bridge. The old one was steel grate deck that was always interesting to ride my motorcycle over. It was old, maybe 1932? I can't remember for sure what the plaque said.

Then a quick stop at discroll's Island where we thought about launching the vert for a quick tour of the back waters...

We missed peak colors by about 7 days, I had been through here then and it was brilliant.

The lines of a 2nd generation Charger, have got to be just about the best ever...I absolutely love them. Thanks for sharing pics!

I do like looking at it...

Quick stop for gas just to be safe. I got 12mpg which considering the conditions and the 75 jets I have in the primaries right now was pretty good. It enjoyed that richness with the 38* ram air the whole trip. I think I would have legitimately had lean surge or miss with the 'econ' 70 jet set that I have used for road trips in nicer weather.

When we got to the shop, the cars were pretty dirty. And unfortunately the car wash spot was exposed to the winds, it was brutal. Still, we didn't want to put them away like that so a quick wash and frozen hands was in store. Then tucked away for a long winter's nap. Mark's vert is keeping my Coronet company while the Charger rejoined the fury and road runner.
