So I bought this one today.

Don't you have an original carb to use...?
Looks like you are trying to keep everything else original looking....

No I do not and that will mostly be under the air cleaner.

I would like to thank Craig @mobileparts for helping me get this turned around quickly with Rare Parts rebuild service.:thankyou::thumbsup:

Been pretty busy but have been able to pick away at the list. The only thing left now is the new coil which is on its way and to prime the oil pump and it’ll be ready to fire. I also installed the idler arm and have one more length of pipe to to install for the exhaust. I bought a cheap muffler as a temporary just for the break in process, I’d rather not damage the NORS one I bought in case it happens to get loaded up with raw fuel On this first start.

Yup. Muffler balloons are no fun...

When I had the '78 NYBS, I'd drive it to work on occasion; this is back when I worked on-base. The timing was a tiny bit off, but I just ignored that until one day...

It was out in the parking lot, not far from the entrance to my building. I jumped in to start it...crankcrankcrank...no start. Pumped it a couple of times, another attempt..."POW" It backfired through the exhaust like nothing I'd heard! Sounded exactly like a gunshot! There are perhaps a dozen people in the parking lot, walking to or from their cars when this happened. Every one of them ducked like they were being shot at! Which in retrospect, was sad to see. You'd think they had all heard a backfire sometime in their lives; I guess not. At the moment, I thought it was quite funny, because I knew what happened, and thought "WTF are they doing?"

Yup, the muffler bulged out in a BIG way! It blew the seam out all the way from front to back. Next morning, I made my way to the muffler shop and got that fixed; but not before I remedied the timing issue on the car.

It happened to me in the silver car in a grocery store parking lot and it sounded more like a cannon then a gunshot!:wideyed:

Working on this now which is the final piece behind the right rear wheel.

Here’s the specimen ready to weld.

Did the '67 and '68 Imperial convertibles have the big lead weights bolted to the four corners of the car, like the '64-'66 ragtops do?

That little patch is all set and while I was back there I put together a complete set of cage nuts for the taillights. I was missing 6 and 1 was broken but I happened to have 4 NOS and I welded the broken one so I’ll live with being 1 short.

No and I’m thinking it was because of the switch to unibody.
