Standard air filter housing or open filter

has there been any horsepower comparisons of an open performance air filter and the same filter in the standard air filter housing, does the standard housing reduce sucking in hot engine air much or is there no difference or is an exposed performance filter better

The factory air cleaners were designed to be sound silencers, not restrictors. Unless you go through the entire breathing process from sucking air into it till it goes out the tail pipe, it's not really the weak link.
