Tallhair's Big Adventure - Chicago edition

Is there anything that Chicago is famous for that hasn't been mentioned?
The highest murder rate in North America, 500 in the first 9 months of 2016. Maybe check out the hotel restaurants and stay off the streets.

Just like any city, there are places to stay away from. I've NEVER felt unsafe around The Loop and the North Side Suburbs. Stay away from the South Side and you'll be fine.

Just keep heading North and go to Green Bay...

Rosemont has a lot to offer too if you don't want to travel far.
A couple really good steak houses in town are Morton's and Gibson's, but be prepared to drop $100 bones for 2 people. Other nice places in town are Giordano's and Carlucci's. You'll be full and still have money in your pocket when you leave.
If you're the gambling type, Rivers Casino is about 1 1/2 mile north of the Hyatt. You can also visit the Fashion Outlet Mall in Rosemont (for the Mrs.) if that is in the schedule.
When traveling to DT Chicago, I'd hop on the Blue Line L train which is a about a 10 minute walk from your hotel. If you prefer to drive DT, be prepared to pay $30-$40 bucks for parking, not to mention the sitting in traffic on I-90 for an hour or more. (see map)

When DT Chicago, there will be all kinds of restaurant's to choose from.
If interested in seeing the city from a boat, take one of the architectural boat cruises. It'll set you back about $33 bucks per person. I took this cruise a few years ago, and the tour guide spoke about the history of the buildings along the Chicago river.
The weather is suppose to be nice this weekend. Have a good time!

Thanks for the tips and great info on the traveling in and around. I mean to ask that too. We'll probably take the L as you suggest for traveling around. We have parking at our hotel for $30 per night.

As mentioned in a previous post, if you're planning to go to Superdawg, it's about a 20 minute drive from Rosemont.
Before you leave the hotel for the parking lot, check with the front desk to find out if there is some type of full-day parking voucher since you're staying at the hotel. If not, you may have to pay another parking fee for the same day. (or take a cab...they're everywhere in Rosemo )

Another question gang. Any suggestions on routes.

55 and 57 look about the same.

55 only slightly shorter.

Both show construction but 55 probably has less yellow dots when I click on it.

both have tolls.

Does either avoid "bad" areas about the same or is one better than the other in case we have to stop for gas or bathroom?

55

you'll be good on the "bad" areas, Bry.

if you wind up taking 55, you'll take 294 north to get to the o'hare area and that is still in the burbs.

also, I would think the hotel wouldn't charge you anything since you're staying there already.

Take 57 north to 80 east to 294 north. Exit at Balmoral and turn right at the off ramp. You're in Rosemont.
Stay off 55 (Stevenson). It's a disaster all of the day.

We're leaving here at 6 PM here and will hit the area around 10-11 PM my guess.. Does that alter anything? or still better to go 57?

If you take 57, be sure you have a full tank of gas BEFORE you hit Blue Island area. Not all area's north of there are bad, but if you have to exit for gas some of the area's on 57 going north are not too safe at 10-11 at night. You know what I mean?

Is 55 OK at that time of night traffic wise ?

and any safer than the 57 area?

If you take the route I mentioned above, you should be fine.
I was thinking you were going to take 57 north to 90/94 through Chicago to 90 to Rosemont.
Don't take this route cause this is where you'll be driving through the "bad" areas.
