I also am skeptical of how green these cars actually can be. I understand they have no carbon emissions but I can image how more energy the power plants will be using to create the electric needed to charge the cars, also the next big problem will be the creating and disposal of the batteries/electronics.

I've read articles earlier last year that detail the cost in carbon foot print savings on gas over electric.
right now there is a marginal gap between the two over the life expectancy of both technologies.
Right now the EV's are just slightly better & not as carbon friendly as the EV's promoters would have you believe.

You save the world in one way but lost the money out of your pocket when recycling the EV version.

they should have a built in pricing to cover the recycling fees up front & not on the end of life recycling costs.

I'm concerned that like trash that gets thrown into ditches here, that we would see an influx of abandoned EV cars in the ditch because of owners refusing to pay thousands of dollars in taxes to recycle their car when it is at the end of life.:p

Actually here in Ontario a number of years ago, the provincial government introduced a $5 a tire disposal fee for all tires being retired from service.

There as a noticeable increase in tires in the ditches until the tire tax was scrapped...
Now it's built into the up front cost and free disposal for all used tires.

Coal burning plants in the US if I am correct...
We are just as guilty in some of our provinces here in Canada...

Also as a computer tech by trade, I know too well that all electronics have a life expectancy. I am concerned about all these added on gadgets in even the new gas cars. What is going to happen to them after 8-10 years when they are "used" cars. The electrical problems they are going to have is really going to be a problem for the used car market. To me the cars of today including these electric ones are are all disposable. I don't personally like investing in disposable goods.

this was a concern back in the mid 80's when EFI was introduced on a mass scale

Or the constant upgrades and security patches like I used to get on my work computer.
    And my personal Apple devices.

IF ..... I had an interest in an EV I’d only lease it.
Dump it at end of lease and let someone else bother with the old tech.

You are absolutely right it is such a shame.

I know no one is probably into old Volvos specifically on this forum, but here is an old commercial I found from them just as an example of how the times have changed. It shows the company's mindset in the early 70s on the idea of making something that lasts unlike the new models today.

I miss when things were meant to last and could stand the test of time.

I saw these and was going to post them and watch the dumpster fire but then got busy & forgot. These were on jalopnik from the gist of the story I got the impression ford put the pics up and then removed them due to negative comments. Looked like they invented the 2020 Pontiac Aztec. Seems like a no brainer to just electric up a mustang but then I forgot the prius taught us theyre supposed to be ugly if they’re electric.

Call me nuts but I really admired the cars of Cuba during their 50 year embargo. No new car garbage coming in! Had to keep the old cars going to survive.

And there would be no more "getting away from it all" because they would know exactly where you went, how long you stopped, how fast you drove, if you ran any red lights, passed on the wrong side of the white line, cut anyone off and flipped them the bird, what hotels you frequent... no more need for private detectives...the ripple affect is endless.
    Iit's a real game changer:lol:

I’ve always figured this absolute push for EV’s over more practical, to me anyway, plug-in hybrids is the plan for governmental take-over of the power grid. Then limits of use would certainly follow. Not too far fetched anymore considering the drivel the squad has been spouting.
