I thought it was about time (1 year later) that I begin my restoration thread of my 1970 Chrysler 300 2 Door Hardtop. Thank you to all the members here who have assisted me with everything from parts to advice to what's this thingy do. Scorch is destined for a complete nut & bolt restoration some day but for now here is my story...........

DAY ZERO (December 2015)

Even though I had just purchased 2 1966 Chrysler 300's this past August 2015 I was still checking the local classifieds for that special find and what parts might be out there for these girls.I came across an ad for a 1970 Chrysler 300 2 Door Hardtop for sale 20 miles away. The seller was asking $3900. I contacted the seller in my "Official" capacity as GSM of the local Chrysler Dealer to see what his intentions were. As it turned out he was a known customer of ours who was looking to make room in his shop for a new Truck. We negotiated a deal whereby he traded in the 300 for a new Ram 1500 and I became the proud 3rd owner of Scorch. He had bought the car as a used vehicle 43 years ago with 8000 miles on it. He disclosed to me that he had it repainted once in the late 80's and that there had been some accident repair to the panel behind the driver's door. My initial investment will remain secret but suffice to say he got a very good deal on his Ram and I got a very good deal on the 300....Win Win He loved this car and even took some "Glamour" pictures after the repaint years ago and framed it. He passed that onto me....

THE BAD.......

Scorch was not a Happy Camper the day she was delivered. She could barely muster enough horsepower to get herself off the trailer. Something was definitely wrong. Heavy miss under load...mmmm see my previous posts on the matter..

IT`S ALIVE!!!!! June 2016

After 3 sets of plug wires and multiple hair pulling and chin scratching sessions Scorch is now running like a Champ! Tossed the NAPA and Echilin wires for some good ol Mopar originals still sitting on a Dealer`s shelf and she now purrs like a Lion. Wait what's this???? Red fluid all over the ground? WTF?

Thanks to the knowledge base here on the forum I quickly diagnosed the problem...Selector Shaft Seal Leak...Armed with my trusty seal replacement tool and my Shop Foreman Mike the seal and pan gasket were replaced in short order....except for the part where Mike dropped the ball bearing attached to the roostercomb down the drain.....we did use the A518 gasket with great results...Thanks Stan!

The Driver's side window was being held up with wooden wedges as the power window motor had failed. Using the information from this site we rebuilt the motors using the steel nut method. Worked great! Thanks again FCBO! (Stunt Double used during this operation)

WHEEL AHOLIC......

During the last year I have been accused of being a wheel hoarder....it's true :)
I have acquired 3 sets of road wheels and several other miscellaneous Dodge wheels just in case...

I found a set of road wheels locally from a guy who tried fitting them on his 8 bolt B-Van :realcrazy:. He had fully restored them and put on new Hankook Optimas....the whole set for $400CDN

DETAILS...DETAILS

So after a very wet summer and very little free time I managed to start revitalizing Scorch's very oxidized paint. I was very concerned about how well it would come back but you be the judge. I have completed 2 stages out of 3 so far of polishing and about 30 hours of work. It is not perfect but certainly looks better.

Stage 1 - Claybar and decontaminate the existing finish

Stage 2 First Cut Polish

SEASON'S END...

Well it's October 2016 and while a lot was accomplished on Scorch there is still much to be done as any project has. One of the last bit's of business was to replace the Headlight Door Motor. Critter generously supplied a spare from his SFGT build and even showed up to do the install! Gotta love Team FCBO

Installed a temporary washer bottle until a suitable replacement can be found. Came outta a 1981 Dodge D100

And a coolant recovery tank from the same D100
