Was it common for buyers to order "triple colored" vehicles? I know triple black is desirable if not pretty rare, and we've had "triple pickle" several times, just wondered or whether "most" buyers went for a contrast.

One of the coolest cars I’ve ever seen was a Vietnam Vet’s 68 Charger RT. It was Blue w red interior and white top and tail stripe. I wish I had a picture of it. It was crazy cool.

I copied it w my red white & blue convertible. Blue w red interior looks better than red w blue but my car was already red so...

The one that got away because I was young, poor and stupid was a triple white 73 NYB. I wish I had a pic of that one.

The only triple"X" I would buy, or have ordered would have been white. Black would be second choice. All the others seem to have three different shades of a colour. That said, I still prefer something with a white interior and top that isn't green.

1955-1959 Dodge, Plymouth & DeSoto you could see 3 colors on a vehicle! I've seen a couple of D-500's that were in red with white and a black roof for example. Mostly 2 colors but occasionally you might see three. Chrysler and Imperial were usually single colors except for 1955-1961... 2 toned or Stainless roof inserts!

That would be because White and Black are not colours....but shades. :p

chrysler did offer 3 tones in the 50s the 56 new yorker st regis was available with several 3 tone paint combos, but i think the 55 new yorker st regis was a 2 tone only deal - not 100% sure

Charcoal with a red interior and black top originally.:)

Such tri-tones (as pictured on that Dodge, as also on many Buicks of that era) were popular in the 1950s and into the earlier 1960s. In later years, "triple" usually means the exterior (two areas) and the interior are the same color. Remember the "triple whites" of the middle 1970s?

Friend of mine bought a Triple White 340 '70 Barracuda out of the Rolo Museum for his wife. She bitched so bad that "it was too noisy and leaked in the rain" that he got mad and sold it to somebody in KCK that he knew. Bought her a Buick Reatta and told her to never ***** again or she'd be walking, lol

PS: Let's not forget either about the higher-end German manufacturers (e.g. BMW-Mini, MB, Audi, Porsche), which offer a lot more customization than US manufacturers currently do.

Isn't that black roof like $1,500.00? It is on the 300, I can't recall seeing one that had the option. Lotta money for a quart of black paint and little extra handling.
