Found it in the garage, digging around the other day, looking for something else!
Cast iron dual point, vac advance, part number is 1779936. NOT a Prestolite, but Autolite!

Any ideas of the application? What engine?

    Thanks.

There were dual point distributors offered for 392 hemi, 350 and 361 big block, 383, 413, and other older hemi engines. Quite a few to choose from. Dual points were mostly used on engines in the high performance area with dual carbs. I no longer have a distributor book that goes back that far. The one I have goes back to 1958 and judging by the dist number, yours is older than that. I am thinking a mid '50's hemi.

That part number doesn't appear in the 55 thru 58 parts manual. What is the Autolite number on the tag?

    Yes, it's a "Solar Spark"
    IBS-4005

    Any help appreciated, guys.

Here's a few pics from a similar looking dist. off ebay. Mine has the same red-silver tag. Same vac advance and side oiler.

So, being a dual point, is it for a dual quad engine?
    What size?

    Here's a few pics.

    Value? What c.i. engines?
As you can see, I know NOTHING about MoPars before I was born!
Plan to put on the local craigslist at a fair price.

    THANKS!

Best thing is to e bay the D500 distributor....worth lots to the right guy. The standard 57 Dodge performance engine was the 325 poly with a 4 bbl. The dual quad was a 325 Hemi...pretty rare. Craigslist would be a waste of time.....try the Forward Look website.

Looking at it to rebuild at a minimum two inside leads, a new advance plate grounding strap, points/cond and you never know if you can free up the advance plate ball bearings so that gives you a idea of the condition.

I would think $100 or less is a gift for a 57 D500 Hemi. Fair would be $200 to $250, bend over would be $400 to $500. Second gen 426 Hemi dual point cores are running $400 to $500. I would buy dual point cores all day long for $75 !

    Is it for a D-500?

IBS 4005 does appear in my Autolite parts catalog dated 1960

    1957 D500

that is the ONLY application shown for it

    001_21.jpg

I have MOPAR parts books from 1929 to 2012 car/truck
and Autolite plus other vendor books that include Mopar parts
plus superseded # Mopar part books for cross reference. About 500 pounds
of part books....a small nightmare indeed!
