So I just discovered an interesting little piece of toy trivia. 1n 1964, Meccano acquired Dinky Toys (a European manufacturer of diecast toy cars dating back to the 30's). At the time, Meccano was developing six new releases for their own existing diecast toy car line, Spot On. Dinky was the better known brand, so the proposed new Spot On diecast cars would be released as Dinkys. One of the six cars in the planning stage at that time was the 1965 Dodge Polara convertible. But, for some reason, by the time the six models were released, a 1965 Oldsmobile 88 had taken the place of the Polara. There was almost a Dinky toy car of a 65 Polara convertible! It was in the works but never made it to mass production. There was already a 63 Plymouth Fury convertible in the Dinky line at the time. These cars would have been about 1/43 scale and would have been in direct competition with Corgi Toys. Interesting that the Rambler wagon and the Corvair Monza made it to production when the Dinky line already had a Rambler station wagon and a Corvair sedan in production, but not the Dodge.
It would have been the first diecast toy C body had it made it to production with the others in 1965.
