That is an aftermarket heavy duty unit. If it still works, keep it.

Don't think it's been used, looks super heavy duty, do you what brand/era it comes from?

Probably late '60's to early 70's Stant brand. That is a guess, but Stant dominated the market for replacement stats. We used to see that style in some of the 413 truck motors.

test it with boiling water, test the temperature of the water then submerse it and see if it opens

Truck/ motorhome/ stationary engine possibly.
Stant was also OEM for a lot of MoPars.

Yep, opened at 180
