Good Evening Guys,
I know there has been a lot of debate on the last Formal built, but I was wondering if I possibly have the last Formal built in 1976? I am not sure as to when the plants closed and reopened for Christmas break, but I reckon my car must have been built pretty close to the end of 1976. Here is the info, along with pictures for proof:
Car: 1977 Chrysler New Yorker
MDH: 122107: December 21, 7:00 a.m.
Scheduled Production Date: C20: December 20, 1976
VIN: CS43T7C139015
Thanks,

It’s actually mid production, as normal 1977 production would have started August 1st 1976, and ended mid July 1977.

It could be “the last built” in the calendar year 1976, but what’s the significance of that???

as you get into the 70’s, the production start date for the model year moves from Aug 1st to much later in August. In some years, the beginning of production is almost September.

As you will have noted, December 21, 1976 was a Tuesday. I didn't find anything on the start of the 1976 Christmas vacation at Chrysler, but that year the New York Stock Exchange had its last trading day before Christmas on Thursday, December 23. In that same link it also says that the car industry was having a good sales period, so no reason for an extended holiday to avoid over-stocking.

I really don't see the significance of having a late CALANDAR date for a car that exactly was the same on Jan. 01. Your are grasping for bragging rights for something there is no reason to brag about.
Nobody cares.

Everybody's got some date that is important to them, even if it makes no difference to the value of the vehicle they now own. My DH43N0D has a decal date of "03-1970", which would have made it reasonably accurate for it to have arrived prior to my high school graduation. FWIW Only thing is that I would have liked a 300 instead, at that time.

Enjoy!

At least two plants used C23 SPDs...

More than by "aplied", my curisosity is triggered by the term "identification change". What does that mean?

The original assigned VIN was 100021 and it was changed to 102070.

Further proof VINs are assigned for administrative purposes, can be changed as/if needed and have NOTHING to do with production sequence.

The point is by the 1976 model year, production started much closer to September 1st than the August 1st date we find in earlier years.

Awesome, thanks for the info guys, I appreciate it! I am not looking for bragging rights, I just thought it would be a cool fact, it came to me while I was on a drive the other day so I thought I would ask the experts.
Thanks again,
