Good Evening Guys,
Can anyone tell me the exact tint for the windshield in a 1977 Chrysler NYB? I am looking for one and found a site (metropartsmarket.com), which seems to make and sell windshields, so I am filling out a form to see if they can make mine, as I need to pass VA inspection. If anyone has one for sale, that would work too.
Thanks,

By the way, I am guessing that it is a clear windshield, but I thought there was a chance that it could be green tint, hard to tell.

The color of the tint should be more blue than green, I suspect, just like all of the other OEM tints back then. In the world of windshields, there is "tint" (all of the glass is the same degree of tint) and "shade" (tinted with the darker band at the top, which is several inches wide). Your vehicle should have a "shade" windshield, I believe, if it was factory tinted glass.

On the existing glass, there should be a notation of "tint" in the ID markings on it, just as on each of the side glass, too.

FWIW,
CBODY67

If you aren't looking to install the glass yourself, any glass shop should be able to get that windshield.

Gentleman, please note he has a 1978 NYB. There ARE NO aftermarket windshields.
Talking about the correctness of tint is a moot point when you're talking about discovering an unobtanium part or sifting through the rubble of used windshields.

That is true, but I am just trying every site I can to see if I just happen to stumble upon one. I am hoping to find one at Carlisle in July, as I would imagine that there is a possibility of at least one being there.
Thanks,

And if you luck out and find an NOS windshield on this planet (which is highly unlucky).....99.9% part of it or the entire perimeter will be delaminating.

Dang, that puts me in an interesting situation. Does anyone have any suggestions? Perhaps I could get the windshield cut by order for the car?
Thanks,

The only thing you will find that is compatible with a 1978 NYB at Carlisle will be an air cleaner wing nut and an 1157 bulb.

The only answer.....

Try to salvage a windshield out of a derby candidate. These windshields are extremely difficult to remove without breaking them. I would take the carcass to a glass specialist for removal. You will also find out that most glass shops don't want to mess with Formal windshield removal.

Windshields to Go website says they are. $370

It's worth a try. The worst they can do is say it's not available. Between me and friends, we've bought about 10 windshields off this company in the last 15 years. You pick the closest warehouse to you, and it'll be there in a day or two. You walk in, show your receipt and your on your way with the new glass.

You're not going to get one at Carlisle. That's not something that anyone brings.

You're not going to have one custom made if they actually are out of production. I already priced that for the fusey sedans, and it was in the thousands.

Bob, was the windshield glass thinner in 78 or just the door glass?

I recently read a post on here about someone in Europe having a windshield custom made. I believe it cost him about twice the value of your car.

Wow! This thread is bringing back nightmares of more than a decade ago!

Here's something else you may not be aware of.....

You do know that 1978 (and all of the rest of the Formal's) windshields aren't the same. Another words a windshield for a group 34 (4 door hardtop) won't fit a 2 door coupe ( I think that is a group 33). The best way to figure all this out is a Field Service Manual and a Parts Catolog which is obtainable pretty cheap on EBay and reproduced through another company that I posted numerous times on this forum.

Stan,

Only the door glass is thinner on a 1978 (for weight reduction). Windshield and rear glass didn't change.

Sounds like baloney to me. Everything that I have says '74-'78 hardtops all use the same windshield, NAGS W821, and almost all '74-'77 sedans and wagons take NAGS W822. The small exception are the cars that had a roof mounted rear view mirror in '74-'75, which take a different number that doesn't have the button glued to it.

How many do you want?

Third one down says it's new, for $100. Has the correct NAGS number for a hardtop.

Yep, it's worth a try. I still say it's highly unlikely they will have one for a Formal. There hasn't been any chatter or even a squeak about anybody having a Formal windshield in more than decade.

Believe me....if someone found a Formal windshield source on this planet the internet would explode like the 4th of July. There might be one in that gigantic Mopar warehouse in Turkey that Stan talked about a decade ago. Lol.

15 years ago I cracked my windshield and my local glass installer had it in the next day from an Orlando distributor.
Jeezes H. Murphy! How times have changed

Yep. No NOS windshields on the planet. That website listed a few posts ago is for salvage glass. Better than nothing. A lot of that salvage glass is delaminating from age.
