That seems to be a common problem. I was just fooling with my 65's booster last night. I got a new one from rockauto, but it looks like they clocked the 2 sides 90 deg off, so the bolts don't fit the firewall plate. Unfortunately, it is the Bendix(?) booster which crimps the 2 halfs together, instead of the Midland-Ross (my original) which has an easy to remove clamp collar.
Update: my mistake, the rockauto one does fit. I was comparing it to my original booster and I am the dumF who clocked that baseplate wrong. Just fixed it.

Last Fall, I installed a booster from a 74 Dart, because I had it and couldn't find the right booster affordably. Though it looked almost identical, the bolt pattern differed. I tried swapping the back-plates, but found the piston diameter thru the back plates differed. I ended up drilling new holes in my back-plate. Currently trying to go back and switch to a dual piston MC for safety, plus an aluminum 2-bolt type (requires $35 adapter plate).

I asked the same question, no. It is only 4 bolts and you need to bench bleed it with a screwdriver or like tool. It took me about 30 minutes to bleed it but I have been told it could take you 15 to 45.

Most mechanics bench-bleed a new master cylinder on the bench (hence the name), but you can easily do it installed. Most come with plastic tubes you connect to the outlet ports and route back to the reservoir, or you can buy those at auto parts, or bend your own from steel brake tube. Just slowly pump the pedal until you see no more bubbles, sometimes ~50 pumps. Many videos on youtube.

My friend is an AZ manager. People buy parts, slip in other parts in the box and return them for full credit. Happens all day long. The staff is too stupid to know the difference and they just throw it back into inventory.

I've had the wrong part in the box from the manufacturer before. I'm sure Cardone (I assume it was the manufacturer) accidently boxed up the wrong product in the wrong box. I've also seen the fella's at AAP, AZ, Carquest, etc. open up and pull parts out of several boxes on the parts counter trying to help a customer and try to match up the right part and mistakenly put the wrong ones back in the wrong boxes. The worst is slime ball commercial customer "Hadji" who will try to manipulate or take advantage of an inept or dishonest crew at the stores I mentioned by ordering several similar items. Example = He'll order a set of the cheapest front brake pads for a 89 ford Escort $9.99 and order a set of the premium brake pads (Bendix ceramic) for a 2003 Ford F-350 $129.99. (I'm just making up prices) He really needs the F-350 brake pads. He'll wait a week and put the Escort pads $9.99 back in the F-350 box and give them to the AAP driver and try to to get the $129.99 back. I've caught a few Commercial Parts Pro's at the store working with these scum bags and splitting the $$$ difference. So the bottom line is that a part could boxed wrong anywhere along the supply trail.

the parts did come from cardone the right one will be here next week guess i can pull the brakes apart and get new stuff if i can get the right drums they always screw that up maybe ill try ebay instead
ive changed master cylinders before but this is my first master booster unit so i wasnt sure on bleeding proces
i know stuff like this happens but i bought it a year ago so i cant exchange it

Most parts have a limited lifetime warranty (they'll replace it one time no matter how long you have it). If's it's a one year warranty and you have a good relationship with the store they'll normally warranty the item for you. I did it all the time to keep good customers coming back. Take it in and ask if they will warranty it...all they can say is no.

I bought replacement power window motors from rock auto that were misboxed. I sent photos of the old and new...... They checked their inventory and everyone they had was wrong. They gave me a refund...said just keep the motors and discontinued their listing.

Were those the ones that they listed as Distributor Closeout, or something like that. Same thing happened to me.

Yep....... Would have been a great deal if they had been correct.... I still have them and still don't know what they fit.... Maybe a electric, power rotating cup holder.
