Dumping gas

I was working on a 1982 Toyota truck with a webber carb 2 weeks ago. Extended crank when hot.
After a test drive and a 5 minute soak, I observed fuel being pushed into the carb, flooding the engine and causing extended crank on hot start.
Luckily, these trucks have a clear factory fuel filter and I could observe fuel moving through the filter at rest.
I went back to the gas tank and removed the cap, whoosh.
The fuel cap was not properly venting, building pressure in the tank and forcing fuel through the carb.
I modifieds the cap to properly vent, problem solved.

i have seen this same problem with older recreational vehicles that get rust in the cap vent or vehicles with aftermarket gas caps.
