Stub frame swapping

Hello,

I am rebuilding my 1965 plymouth Fury 3, 4 door hardtop.

It has a 318 poly with auto 727, power steering and no sway bar.

I found a 1965 Chrysler 300 2 door that has a 440 and auto 727.

I want to get a 440 so would it be as easy as buying this Chrysler 300 and simply bolting the stub frame into my fury?

What issues would I run into? Fenders, brackets not mounting? Would everything still work as advertised?

Help please.
 
You would probably be better off contacting Schumacher Industries and get a set of their engine mounts to locate the big block into your Stub Frame.

Before you rip the guts out of a classy car, how bad is the 300? Why do you think the 440 won't just bolt up to the Fury's existing frame?

There is a 20+ page thread on stub frames. I don't think anyone will truly know the answer. Check part numbers and see what might interchange. Later model Fury and Chrysler frames are not interchangeable with out major mods. The Fury frames are shorter.
 
Ok, we'll the 440 swap into my frame would require a certain 440 with bosses in order to use the motor mount conversion from Schumacher.

I haven't looked at 300 yet but itshe possible that it has those bosses.

My fury is in a frame up rebuild so I wouldn't be destroying a clean car, I'm trying to build something I'll be happy with instead of settling for the current 318 and wanting more down the road.

I know that 65 is one off year so I figured its worth a shot that they might be interchangeable
 
Here's something that may help. Download the parts manual for your '65 here:

A little farther down the page, there's an interchange manual for '50-'65. Take a look at that too, but it isn't a good reference.

If I were to guess, the stub frame is the same for all the V-8s with different mounts for big and small blocks. That's pretty much the way it is across other cars. I'd compare the stub frame part numbers in the manual to check that for sure. From there you should be able to figure out the mounts needed.
 
Why not just build the Chrysler? '65 300's are cool cars.

He doesn't indicate the Chrysler's condition, and it sounds like he's well into the Fury job so it may well be cash wasting to change horses midstream.

This really piqued my curiosity, so I opened my copy of the 65parts manual and found this:

There shows two stub frames for the Plymouth. One for the 6 and one for the V8. It also shows a different part number for the Chryslers and Dodges. That doesn't mean the Chrysler frame won't work... It just means that it isn't the same.

That tells me that you can use the Plymouth stub frame that's in the car now.

Your page show 66, not 65.
 
Some day someone will show a pic of the P2 frame next to a D/C frame and we'll finally have the definitive answer to this question.

Maybe the next person that goes out to visit Murray will bring a decent camera and a tape measure.
 
So many frames are interchangeable even with different part numbers too, when all is different is the length of the torsion bars and thus the length of the rear torsion bar mounts. I sold a 68 Chrysler Newport frame to a guy with a 68 Fury which bolt right on. He just had to use the original torsion bars to the Chrysler frame to make it work.

His original post states the big block is from a 1965 also. His mounts from the 300 would probably be correct. Schumacher will be able to answer that question as they are doing this all the time.

His block could not be from a 65. There was no 440 until 66.
