Here is the set of road wheels I had for sale cleaned up and offered again, I would like $350 for the set.

The most difficult to sell aspect of those wheels is the use of AMC/Motorwheel center caps rather than the real Mopar ones. I hope the potential buyer realizes that critical detail. :poke:

Its interesting to note that yes they appear identical but they actually arent, one of the caps is AMC, but the other three aren't, the AMC unit has a polished center and also had american motors printed around the base of the button which i painted, though the lettering is a little raised. The other three never had the lettering and have a brushed aluminum center. Since these units are identical to the promo picture, I wonder if Chrysler used them in the very early production and then changed to the larger ribbed button to set them apart from AMC?

Motorwheel supplied a version on their own for the aftermarket, which was like the AMC cap but without the red metal band that spelled out "American Motors" that the AMC caps had glued into the upper portion of the base around the serrations. But the two were virtually identical otherwise. The real Chrysler road wheel caps however, were wider at the top of the domes with fewer serrations than the Motorwheel/AMC caps. Also the Motorwheel/AMC domes had a slightly raised ridge at the very top of the cap just above the serrations, whereas the Chrysler domes were flat with no ridge across the top of the caps. It still looks to me like your caps have the ridge I am talking about and the higher number of serrations.

The more likely scenario is that for the photos taken for the preproduction brochures, they might have used the Motorwheel aftermarket caps instead of the regular production Chrysler domes, which probably weren't ready yet by the time of the brochure publication.

I have never seen an actual production Chrysler product with the road wheels that the Motorwheel/AMC version of the domes.

I saw it....didn't WANT to say it. It wasn't worth the discussion that you put forth, to me anyway. You did a very nice job.

I recently discovered that I had the AMC centers on my parts car, where I originally thought I had decent driver quality Chrysler parts. They don't look bad for what they are, and I'll use them, but now I'm on the hunt for correct centers. Other than the size of the "gear", the AMC top is not detachable from the rest of the center like the Mopar piece, and it mounts with only three bolts as opposed to five. Nice wheels, I hope you get what you are asking. I like the painted look.

I have AMC domes too, and I like them. Three bolts, that's right. They have a tendency to get loose and wobble a bit - at least a couple of mine did due to the small screw holes in the back of the dome being stripped. It's interesting - one pair I have has the red ring with "American Motors" and the other pair is plain.

As I indicated earlier John, Motor Wheel sold that identical AMC cap in the aftermarket but without the metal AMC band. So you have both types that were available back then. I have extras if you need any BTW.
