Actually "Jew" is pretty much acknowledge as a slur for a very long time. This article, by a Jewish author, describes how the word morphed from the noun it was in ancient time to the slur it has become. She does lament that it has become emotionally charged and would like it to revert back. However, she may have a very hard time achieving that after how the Nazis have cemented that emotionally charged version into our lexicon that continues today. As used here it is not racist in the standard sense but derogatory and racist in that anti-Semitism is a form of discrimination. So even though jew him down has been around a long time it is what it is. Jewish people would react to it in a similar manner that Japanese people would react to Jap. Here it is more likely a tone deaf issue than a direct intention to slur a group.

Opinion | ‘Jew.’ Why does the word for a person of my religion sound like a slur?

We could whip this horse a long time but then I've just offended a lot of horses haven't I?

Having largely Polish, Lithuanian and German blood I could get offended by Manny many things, Krauts, Polish Jokes , Commie , can't win a war... then theres the blond jokes. Oh, and the Caucasian jabs. Apparently I have a lot going against me.
I couldn't care less , if anyone is offended by words then they have the problem.
I also refuse to accept, believe or understand how these words can hurt, they build character, toughen up and move on, Francis

Like I said tone deaf and I was giving you the benefit of the doubt. Now I am not so sure because the problem is not with them it is with you. Ironic how you so strongly argue your position but then would so strongly dismiss someone who strongly argues their feelings. I'd loved to see you call a bunch of Filipinos, Flips, in the Philippines and see what happens. However, you are right one could be the horse to death as in you are never going to see it.

This will no doubt be over your head some but there is also a difference between offend and a ethnic slur.

Who cares what your background is as that is nothing but a red herring.

I wouldn't say it there. That's their world, their land and I wouldn't be caught there regardless. I'm not arguing either, you are reading into it way to much. Just expressing and yet you've managed to find fault with that . I would presume because it is not politically correct.

Thicker skin required ....

But you condone racism?How typical.
Typical of what? Sounds like you are trying to say something about me, which shows you don't know anything about me.

I was speaking to your language, which you typed in 2 separate posts - language that was directed at another person here. Language that reflects on all of us. Future readers might not notice the original comment, but they'll sure see your words.

The worst part of modern-day 'racism' is when people plaster that label everywhere they want. Makes it harder to address true racism when it does occur.

And last time I checked, racism is BS, we're all members of the human race. Do you have 'influensters' you are affiliated with that can give you a talking-point about that?

So I’m thin skinned, a liberal, need to toughen up, playing the race card, have a bigger nose than dick, then there’s ole Oliver justifying the comment because Jew is a religion, not a race. Bottom line there is no place for “mildly anti-Semitic” on a site like this. I come here to learn about these cars and to perhaps find one I like enough to buy. And to fury fan, you got upset over the language I used, but you’re not upset that a member used a term that I found offensive. You all hide under the guise that people are so sensitive in today’s world. I’m 60 years old, I’ve probably had more up’s and downs in my life than most of you. Yes, Polara 71’s comment bothered me, if you can’t understand it then that’s on all of you.

Well this has most certainly derailed, lol.

I don't think people should go out of their way to offend, and by the same token, I don't think that's what was intended. It's actually been a while since I've heard "jew him down on the price", or "I got gyped". What's going to end all of this will be the epoch of Internet, which will remove "local color" from speech. Some will see that as good, some bad. Personally I don't like this ever-blending culture for the same reason I hate that cars have fewer and fewer differences between countries. There would never be a Mexican Ramcharger in 2018 because Latino men are as pussy-whipped as Wimpy Q. McWhiteguy and purchase 4dr CUVs now. Once upon a time a 4dr was unheard of in my testosterone-infused Dago family. If the kids complained about inconvenience; "F them! Lil' shits should be happy they don't have to walk. Uncle Johnny has a Firebird because he F'ing worked OT driving the UPS truck, not the stupid kids!"

But that era is almost gone. (I probably just won't admit it is gone.) I'm glad I was around for the tail end of it, although I do a decent job of being a Neanderthal. People are astonished I make my kid climb in the back of a '79 Magnum. Last night she insisted we "catch mommy's car" so I let the 318 roar well over the speed limit with the tops out. She's never seen a tablet and loves the wind on her face... but I digress.

A few days ago I watched this old show called "dogfights" which you could tell was made around 2000 when the WWII guys were around. They interviewed a Tuskegee airman who said he was most proud that they didn't lower any standards for black pilots. Occasionally you see that type of black pride and I realize that I really respect it. Not a bunch of affirmative action quotas, or insane rioting. More like a "screw you whitey, I'll beat you at your own game" spirit.

And I realize I'm not a bigot. I just hate weakness.

...anyway, random thoughts. This thread was screwed anyway!

If anything it was complimentary

The "real" Sicilian's are hardcore negotiators, not pussies handing out $100 tips. So are Jews. Again, I respect that, so I see the compliment in it.

I don't mean this in a mean way, but embrace it, I can think of worse stereotypes.

So I’m thin skinned, a liberal, need to toughen up, playing the race card, have a bigger nose than dick,

Mendel Berlinger (Milton Burle) was like a super-jew, but known in Hollywood for a huge schlong. Hang your hat on that.

Well, not literally.

Racism rears its head seemingly in cycles. Obviously we are all a little different in some ways, but what is taking place now is part of the undercurrent of a lot of people who are pissed off at their circumstances. Those that have jobs struggle to make ends meet, have too much debt, live in an environment of insecurity and are wondering what has happened to let them down compared to the past when seemingly the hard working guy did pretty well, got decent wages and was able to have a pretty good life and even be able to afford college for their kids. Then there are those that live in inner cities and other places such as rural America who have virtually nothing and struggle every day just to have a place to live and to eat enough to survive. Everyone these days has an axe to grind, and it overflows into finding scapegoats for their situations. Many pick what is near to them and pull the race issue, while others look to a government that doesn't serve them well anymore. That is how Trump got elected. People want change - it wasn't this bad in the past! And its gonna take one "tough guy to achieve it" rationale, which is hard to argue with.

I have found this particular author and former Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration pretty astute and well tuned-in to what has really changed to get us where we are today. I believe he has laid out the "big picture" pretty well. Until we understand what has happened, we will be floundering to fix it and lashing out in directions that do us no good. Well worth the not too lengthy read in my opinion:

Why Wages Are Going Nowhere

Keep in mind, one of the primary reasons (number 2) why I left Chrysler was the stronghold unions had on the company. So I am not a union guy, but rather believe there is a need for some balance between corporate greed and liveable wages for the workers that is out of whack these days, as summarized well in this article. We need to stop bickering among ourselves and go after fixing our government and chosing better representatives. And that means homework on our part if we really want things to change. Corporations that do well in this country and then ship jobs overseas to placate their CEOs and shareholders have to really be dealt with IMO too. I personally believe that Trump, by throwing our economy into uncertainty with looming trade wars, may not be all bad as a start. We need to relook at everything...................

Rationalize it all you want. Doesn't change a thing.

You could have said bargain him down but you didn't. Why?

With anti-Semitism on the rise in the country lately one should get a pass?

I think it's the Irish who can claim that.:)

That's just a myth.. Grewing up with lots of friends from eastern Europe and Russia I can tell you these guys have reached a higher level of drinking..
From what I heard the Finnish can cope with them, but I've never met a Finnish in real life yet
