Fender mounted turn signal question

My 67 Sport Fury has fender mounted turn signals (bullet?).The passenger side works fine. The drivers side doesn't work. My question is how to get the lens off so I can try changing the bulb. There is a slot in the lens that would seem to fit a coin or something of the sort to try to turn the lens. I don't want to, take the chance of breaking the lens.

Any advice?

DO NOT try to turn that lens!! The housing must be removed from inside the wheel well. 2 nuts. Once unplugged and away from the fender there is a set screw on the mounting surface you must loosen to remove the lens. That slot in the lens was a dumb idea.

Thank you sooooo much! I knew better than to try to turn the lens. The passenger side lens doesn't have the slot so I figured there had to be a way to remove it without turning it!

On the 67 the bullets are separate units that bolt through the fender top.

The 65 is separate as well, with two bolts, just like you all described, the bulb replacement is just a pull straight down from reaching inside the fender, no need to remove the "Bullet"

Ahhh. Not so easy here.

I have a pair of NOS fender mounts and it appears as though the lens does unscrew. The Year One replacements seem to verify that. Holding the new ones in my hand I see no way of getting to the bulb from the bottom. I'd be really careful disassembling them and it may require some penetrant.

This is a c body. Not sure if that matters. The drivers side is slotted. The passenger side lens isn't. I will take the bullet off and look for the set screw as described in an earlier post. That is as soon as I get it out of storage in spring.

I know yours is a C body and they may have used the same ones on a C body, Year One doesn't care to check the application. Anyhow ime sure that the assembly is the same even if the style isn't.

Early models had no slots for removing the lens. It was changed later. So the only way to remove was to loosen the set screw from the bottom that actually holds the socket. Because of the dissimilar metals they often corrode and shatter when removing.
this piece is a NOS piece.

Ah ha, I see it now. The set screw tightens against the socket on the end of the wire. I haven't seen that on mine because they must have put a small dab of adhesive on it to keep the gasket with the part. My set screws are covered by a small piece of the gasket that stuck to it. I'll have a closer look when I get to the shop.

i would try moving it or pecking on it. they are good for loosing there ground when they set for any lenth of time. mine do that in the rain sometimes

I did try that previously but didn't think to look for a set screw. I'll check that as soon as I get it out of storage in a couple months.
