vent window crank mech replacement

i need to replace the vent window crank mechanism on my 65 savoy. i ended up busting the glass on the car i got the replacement mechanism out of so it was not too difficult. however, getting it back in might be a different story.
can anyone tell me if i need to remove the glass to replace the mechanism?

I've done this on a 68 and I don't remember removing the glass.

The shaft on the glass has a ball type socket on it, just below that is a bolt, separate the regulator there.

The window is upside down so ignore that part, or flip your monitor over. First shows regulator sitting on the shaft, bolt removed; second shows regulator sitting next to the window shaft.
