Nice score....

I threw out all my 8-track tapes 35 years ago when the cassette's came in to play.

LED ZEPPELIN !! YES!! You rock!

BTW, I remember them. They were quite well known locally. We all went there.

With their 8 track success, they built a huge fancy shmancy showroom out on Rt. 1, The main drag for traffic.
There they went bankrupt.
Should have diversified from 8 tracks into AM/FM/CB's. LOL

I have about 40 or so 8-tracks. The only car I own that has an 8-track player is the '78 NYBS.

Chrysler was WAY out of touch on radios in the mid 1970s. When cassettes were all the coming rage, Chrysler kept sticking AM/FM/8-track players in cars. Most of the NYBs you see on ebay have that radio in them. Since the later AM/FM/Cassette/Cd players are plug and play in these cars, I'm willing to look the other way as far as originality goes. Hell, you might even get to the point you could have it control the power antenna!

mayby you could shed some light on this oddity

never seen another 71 fury with this...would this be dealer addition?..will know more when l can get a look at underside of passenger fender in couple mnths...car has center tunnel casset pod

This would be R48 power antenna, R36 AM/FM/Cassette and if you're REALLY lucky, R33, microphone for the cassette player. The housing for the player itself was one piece and the mounting base was a separate piece. There was also a very stubby base to install the player on a car with a center console.

I see power windows and a/c, hidden headlights, twin outside mirrors and a Brougham nameplate on the i/p.... Is this a loaded car ? Is it a Fury or a Fury GT?

Since you're in Alberta and the car has Saskatchewan plates, are you planning a road trip?

Car is 71 gt with super comando. Ew1 h5y5 with gold vynal roof is a 2 tag loaded , no tilt or cruise. Is also brogham. Casset player orignal to car via tags. Thinkin power areial had own tag no?or woulda been part of casset package or brogham package?

But on the quarter Kevin? I don't think so......

Normally, I wouldn't think so either, but I'll need to sit in a dark corner for a while and think about why a power antenna would be mounted at the back and not the front? Is it tight to get an antenna installed at the rear of a front fender? Less work to run the antenna lead-in cable back to the front of the car? Does this power antenna assembly have any Chrysler part numbers on it? Is there any sign of an antenna hole in the front fender that may have been filled in ? How does the antenna operate? Is there a separate switch or is it automatic to the radio? If there's a switch, where is it mounted ?

That picture raises a whole lot more questions than it answers. Chrysler stopped producing Engineering Data Books in 1965 and stopped doing Features books about 1968 so there won't be any answers there. But maybe the technical press kit might reveal something. I've been running my not inconsiderable *** off today, and figuring this out isn't something I can do on the fly.

Typically the cars with fiberglass hoods they would put the antenna in the rear.

Alan

The more l learned and the pics on the net of all antenas on front right has me wonderin to
will know more when fenders pulled to see if its patched. Seems like alota work just to put antena in trunk
Front passenger fender shows no sighns of patch from exterior
power switch for antena no clue
basicly bought car hauled it back to calgary and threw it in storage.
Have seen car mayby 3-4 times ,,havent had alota spare time to fiddle or explore..is reason it gos to restorer. No spare time to do myself
Think l have one more good close pic up of settup will put it up tommorow..waitin for a plane.
What l would give for a year in a garage with no phone......
unit would never fit in front.prievious owner deseased but brother said cassett ect worked and orriginall dealer still in place...lotsa leads to follow up. ..more to this story yet. Gona contact the brother and see if thiers any more info l can dig up

They didnt use that type of connector, did they?

AND in 71, would they have had a antenna cable that long in the parts bin?

I think you could get an radio equipment supplier or even the local installer guy to make up you a lead-in cable to whatever length you wanted. All that would really matter is that it was well enough shielded to avoid picking up interference.

I don't know how to read that Kevin. Are you suggesting The Chrysler plant had a radio guy make up the antenna cable? Or are you saying this is an aftermarket piece installed after it being built?

I'm saying that making up a longer lead-in cable doesn't require gobs of engineering. The engineer tells the parts specification guys that he wants to mount the antenna in the quarter panel and needs a cable from the antenna that's "X" feet "Y" inches long, and the parts spec guys call the supplier and says "We need "Z" number of cables that are "X" feet, "Y" inches long, and the supplier says "OK, I'll ship them on such and such a date."
