On Sunday, May 20, I took my '65 Sport Fury to a car show in Florence, Colorado, which is a small town about 45 miles southwest of Colorado Springs. They had some 400-450 cars there and one of the attractions was Dennis Gage, the mustached host of "My Classic Car." As he was cruising the show in his golf cart, Dennis was attracted by my car and he stopped to talk to me about it while his cameraman went over it. The car is Medium Red Metallic with a matching interior, 426-S Street Wedge, and 4-speed, so we discussed those aspects. He didn't interview me on camera like he did in 2011 when he did a pretty good spot on my SonoRamic Commando-equipped '60 Fury, but he did give me a sticker that indicated he was interested in it. The camera guy did quite a bit of work taping it , though they probably do about twelve hours of such to get just 20 minutes for the show, so the possibility is rather strong that it won't appear, but it was fun anyway, especially the way it seemed to bug the "blue oval" and "bow tie" guys nearby.
Incidently, if anyone is interested, the interview about my '60 Fury can be found by googling "2011 Cruise Above the Clouds, Woodland Park, Colorado."

I don't get his shtick on My Classic Car. It's like he's trying too hard to be enthusiastic and to me it sounds like he is talking down a bit to the audience like it's Sesame Street. Pay attention kiddies, we're going to have some fun and don't tell anyone but you're going to learn something too.

His motorcycle show, Trippin on Two Wheels is completely different in that regard. If it wasn't for the mustache you wouldn't know he was the same guy. No goofiness, just the facts with a history lesson about the bikes and the locale delivered conversationally. I think it's cool that his teenage son is along to counter the 2 been there done that views of Dennis and the other co-host with the never been there never done that perspective. You only get to do that once.

WOW!!!!
Andy Granatelli put a couple of Paxton's on his 300F Special back in 1960 and took it to Bonneville, but this setup beats his all hollow.
Are the interior walls of the ram tubes modified for top end boost?
That is awesome!

not sure just caught my eye . when a guy with twin turbos on his somoramic setup on a 500 plus inch wedge in his towing truck . and there was like three different versions of that long ram set up , i have an early 383 or 413 setup myself , going to put it on a 59 rb 383 some day , set it in a hotrod roadster .

Here's a pic of my current '65 along with a black/white one of my girl and I with the first '65 back in late '65/early '66 (she's still my wife). That first one didn't have a vinyl top, bumper guards, or tach, but it did have power brakes. We traded it in 1967 for a '67 R/T with the 375 horse 440/4-speed when we were in Cheyenne, WY. Do you have any idea where your dad's '65 came from?
BTW, sorry about the delay in responding -- a few car shows.

Wow, that is beautiful. I will post some pics of his car, it is a 4 speed factory tach car too. I also have a black 65 SF and a Pace Car Convertible, all big block cars.

Beautiful car although, imho, it would benefit from a small white wall on the tires to highlight those great wheels!

btw, a friend of mind at that time had a brand new 4 dr hrdtp Fury VIP in that color. He was the envy of many of his friends, including me.

He's a pompass arrogant prick
RIGHT ON DAVE. I used to thoroughly enjoy the one day MOPARS AT RED BARNS SHOW every July just north of Kalamazoo, Mi. I had my own parking spot backed up to the Shell Station 'til 2010 or 2011, when the hosting Mopar Club advertised Mr GAGE would be in attendance. I MISSED THE SHOW THAT SUNDAY. Reason being that if he'd stopped at the Batwagon and said one word he'd really known what this ole' dawg thought of hiz babble and mustache, lol

That is a GREAT car and I definitely prefer it without the vinyl top to my current one with it! Back in the 1964-1965 time line, stock wheel covers and fender skirts were no longer in fashion though mag and aluminum wheels certainly were. I couldn't afford anything like those on your dad's car so I settled for the baby moons very soon after getting home. I don't know what happened to the skirts and wheel covers on that first Sport Fury, but in my old age I'm kinda going back all the way with the stock, off the production line, retro look of the showroom '65. Thanx for the pic.
Incidently, right after I got that first '60 Fury way back in 1960, I put some cheapo chrome skirts on that car right after I took delivery, but they were swiped very soon thereafter, as were the second and third pairs. After the third set went, my insurance company said "No more" so I went with baby moons on that one as well.

Since that appearance on "My Classic Car" I put some 2 1/2" wide white walls on the Big-Tailed Beast. In the old days, I really didn't care for the "gangster" wides and replaced them with the narrow ones early on, but now they do seem to fit the car.
Joe

I have not seen "My Classic car" in a few years ,I still think it is cool he came over to talk to you.

Gary --
Thanks. I think it was pretty neat too, especially since the old MOPARs really don't get any publicity. I'm not the least ashamed of it and, in fact, I'm sure that if the devil himself came over to me with a camera, I'd think of a good word to say about Hell. Since I'm an old fudd, I take particular delight in showing off cars that would blow the doors off Marauders, S/S Impalas, and Goats.
Joe

Great story and thanks. We have the original fender skirts and Caps for all the cars too. I had a Copper 65 SF with a black vinyl top, liked the look on it and I think yours looks great with the vinyl.

Here is my Pace Car. Bought it from the original owner and he still writes me about the car.
