68 Polara convertible, manual swap or 4 speed auto?

I'm toying with transmission options on my Polara. Part of me wants to keep it auto but at the same time I like having 3 pedals and gears to hammer through. The transmission that's in it is the original 727 3 speed auto, which I am pretty sure is toast as it takes 3-4000 RPM for the car to move...

    68 Polara disassembly

Thanks for the tip :-) Thankfully the garage is all concrete block, isn't directly accessible from the house (It's attached, but there's no door directly from the house to the garage) and the neighbors are far enough away it probably won't matter too much :-P I'll have to see if I can hunt one down!

looking for 1968 polara door panels

That makes two of us! Mine are completely missing though, I have the metal part that goes at the top and holds the felt molding for the window, but I don't have the rest of it, so I can't just recover the vinyl part :-( I don't think they will be terribly hard to make, but I wish you could just...

    68 Polara disassembly

Once I actually get my garage space, of course! But I want to strip the car down so I can undercoat it and paint the body parts, and clean up and paint the suspension and such. Any tips for doing so? I have a factory service manual buried in a box somewhere so I guess I could always consult...

Need 68 Polara 2 door measurements

Need 68 Polara 2 door measurements

That and the formula for required project space is: Required space = available space + 1 :-P So even if I had a 3,000 sq ft garage, I'd have it full of crap in no time! I think shortly after we move in, I am putting the Polara on stands and pulling the subframe and front clip off and dropping...

Need 68 Polara 2 door measurements

Well, we accepted the counter offer on a house :D Now it's just a matter of it passing inspection and appraisal, but the garage is big enough for at least two if not three C bodies side by side :-P We got a USDA loan though so our closing date is June 15th :-( So it's going to be at least...

Need 68 Polara 2 door measurements

Yeah, when we started looking my wife said it had to have a decent yard and a good kitchen, so I said it had to have a garage big enough for the Polara :-P and yesterday we looked at one she kinda liked, but she took one look at the garage and said "Nope, no way your car will fit in here!" So...

    Introduction of bigbadsubaru

Yeah, they sent me that same card... VW one I got new floor mats and an extra key, still have enough left for my next service, and with the Visa card I got a new fishing pole and some other goodies, and let my wife get her hair and nails done :-P If their fix destroys mileage/performance, I'll...

Need 68 Polara 2 door measurements

Thanks a bunch :-) Of the two houses we really liked, both had garages more than big enough for it :-) But there was one that we were both iffy on, one look at the garage and it was a big NOPE, wouldn't get the car in there and have room to work on it! :-P

    My 68 Polara convertible story

I never worked in the industry, I graduated just in time for the economy to go in the toilet and take the custom car market with it. I worked in a motorhome plant for a year and spent 5 years with Toyota/Subaru before I went back to school. I still do car stuff on the side though

I like it just fine, waiting for this whole dieselgate fiasco to be over so I can trade it in on a wagon :-P

    Introduction of bigbadsubaru

Explanation of the name - I used to have a lifted 84 Subaru wagon.. My normal forum name is Hondasucks but this board didn't take it, so I used my alternate.. I've had 20+ Subarus, last one was an SVX but with my commute (37 miles one way) I needed better mileage, so I've got one of those cheaty...

    My 68 Polara convertible story

I will have to dig out pictures (I'm at work and all my pics are on my home computer) but I suppose I should introduce myself and my beast :-P First of about me, I'm Andrew, 33, married, no kids, currently live in Vancouver, Washington (Just across the river from Portland, Oregon, and I'm a...
