Sorry been a bit busy. Here are the photos of the spreader tool I made. As per the above posts don't attempt to remove the spring without a tool.

I will post some photos and then it will be clear that it can't be done without a tool to spread the spring as it is under tension so if any bolts are just done without the tool it will violently spring back under load.

Thanks for the reply but the spreader tool only applies to C bodies from 75 to 78 so yours is a different set up.

Yes it looks straightforward but the book warns to never do it without using this tool so i need some feedback from someone who has actually done this job and can advise exactly how to do it safely.
