78 Newport. Off the road for twenty years. Just got it on the road and noticed that both the trip meter and odometer don’t work. If I tap on the plastic near the trip meter, it will start turning but only for a few tenths of a mile. Any ideas what it might be? I want it working so I can see...

I need to put 4 new shocks on my 78 Newport. If a shop did it, roughly hour many hours should they bill me for? I have the shocks. Thanks.

How is that done?

Yes. The transmission fluid is full.

Around 25 mph. If i give it a bit more throttle off the line, the shudder goes away. I think I'll just learn how to "drive through it". It's not highly annoying, but I will check the timing and see if that changes things. Thank you everyone.

I have a 78 Newport with the 400-4 bbl converted to Chrysler electronic ignition and lean burn delete. Entire new fuel/carb system and ignition system. Car runs fine at take off and at cruising speeds. My issue is, when the car shifts into 3rd, it stumbles/shakes for about 3 seconds then runs...

Ok thank you for the very detailed reply Vannth. You are correct that my aftermarket replacement switch is 1 1/16" and the O.E. , I'm guessing it's the original, is 1". I'll try a 12 point 1".

Is there a special socket to remove the oil pressure switch, on a 1978 Newport with a 400... idiot light type of switch. Thank you.
