Stub frame. I'm going to guess your subframe bushings are gone. You must be hearing a "clunk" going over bumps and feeling some flex. Interesting... Yours looks to be only three sides where as I've only seen them completely boxed in. I'm dealing with a '72 so maybe the '70 was different? - MG

1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited with 81k on the clock. I live 2 miles from work so the mileage stays low. The most miles comes from driving up to the mountains b/c it's really a ski rig.

Update - After 9 MONTHS of waiting, my new top is in from Newstalgia.... Yes, I went with the black top. My roof is repaired, sanded, and primed and ready for installation. I'm so excited for spring to get here to get the following done and the final phase started -

Watching... My valance is off and I started to play the guessing game w/ the bolts inside of the trunk. Service manual has been little help. The '72 Newport page showing the rear bumper doesn't even have a valance in the diagram.

It's more like a rubber seal that they laid down and then set the glass in. Here are a few photos. Truth be told, this was done at the metal shop and once I picked it up, I noticed that the trim clips were not put in before the glass was re-installed. They were in the trunk...... Needless to...
