First, it’s your car. If you are not concerned with reselling price, do it the way you want to. That being said- if you do consider actual resrll value- keep it original. Imperials owners are sticklers for originality, and will take off money for non factory regardless of how perfect it is...

I think it’s because the early ones use a filter in the return line nipple. So it’s like a 1/2” id hose instead of 3/8”. You could probably run the bigger hose and a worm gear type clamp and it would seal. But it’s not “right”.

I was just told the ‘61-‘66 uses a larger return hose (and looking at others I have I think that’s right) so the nipple on the pump is larger diameter so I’m thinking it won’t work unless you deal with the return hose mismatch.

I wanted to check to be sure. I’ve got it advertised elsewhere as a Federal but that’s not right… After digging more it’s a TRW. Will fit ‘68-up but it’s not correct for a ‘68 from what I’m seeing.

I’ve got this for sale… ‘66 Federal pump with everything. I resealed the pump, new hose and return line (correct for ‘66, not sure if ‘68 is the same return line material), new tensioner bumper.

I’ve got a fresh older one for sale in CT. It’s a ‘66 with matching convertor. I rebuilt it, was in the car running and driving until I parted the car.

Thanks Jim- I believe the convertible interior is different… rear seat and panels plus it’s missing the other interior parts I need. With the other details and stuff I’d still need I’ll pass. Now if someone buys it and wants to sell me the grille and PS pump… lol

It was fine. I had new lines, fresh engine, fresh trans and it never ran hot or mixed fluids.
