New Vinyl top for the NYB

I'll be very happy with the Elk grain. Sure, I could have gone the SMS route to be correct, but it's not going to ever be a perfect restoration...it's a summer cruiser. Plus, I don't want to be in perpetual purgatory waiting for a replacement top to enjoy the car. I got this top in a week and...

New Vinyl top for the NYB

Huge shout out to Tops online: Landau Vinyl Tops | TopsOnline I just took delivery of the replacement top for the 78 NYB. It is a perfect fit. You can see that it is made in such a way as to be Imperial and NY Salon friendly too...although I do not have the smaller rear window, so I don't need...

    Persistent stalling after warm-up

Be methodical and calm you'll get it back running...do not despair. We've all been there and I know it can be frustrating, but these are way easier to fix than the new computer EFI stuff. You'll get it, I'm sure.

NOT MINE 52-Mile 1977 Newport Sedan on BaT (No Reserve)

I went looking for the factory grease pencil inspection marks that a low mile original should have (heck my brother's car does)...and I see none. The car is in great preserved condition but the lack of factory markings makes me wonder.

    Window motor removal?

Some regulators have helper springs which hold the gears under tension and can make it harder to remove the motor. Watch out for that spring! I normally find a way to jam a screwdriver into the regulator to prevent it from viscously swinging when the motor is removed. As well, sometimes there...

    78 Newport trans question

This is interesting and got me thinking. I nerd out about one year only options and the big block lock up 727 (400 cu in only) falls into this category. When looking at the factory documentation the waters are muddy. The databook would have one think that every 400 Newport/ NY would have a lock...

Picked up another cool cruiser - 77 Town & Country

Congratulations! Thanks for saving it. These are great cars. I just love mine. Not only is the dash gold instead of parchment...it's an Imperial dash pad. Interesting that this car has Fuselage steps bolted to the Formal rear bumper. Never saw that done before.

    Junk yard save

Great save. I agree with you that the big wagons are "too much" without something to break them up visually. That thing should be woodgrain!

Anyone hear of "steam cleaning trick"?

Very old school and it works. Look up Uncle Tony's Garage...he talks about this technique.

    Headliner Install

Well, although I've never steamed a headliner, I have steamed wood and I think the general precepts are the same. I would steam it and clamp it to the old piece so that I could achieve the factory bend. Either that or fabricate a jig to duplicate the factory bend. Since it is cardboard I...

    78 Newport trans question

Of course, you made sure the transmission fluid is full, right? The lock up on these unique big block lockup torqueflites is very sensitive to low fluid.

Calling all 4 door console shift cars

These are pretty rare and I think only offered in the Slab side era (don't quote me!). Hoping to create a sticky thread repository of pics of these rare cars... I'll kick it off with this Canadian 65 Polara I saw on FB marketplace: 1965 Dodge polara

1976 Chrysler Cordoba need help decoding build tag

This is somewhat born out it the numbers...when you look at the last gen Bbodies, even when you look at the "image" cars like the Roadrunner and Charger Daytona, most are small bocks, like 318s, or the low-po 400. It was clearly no longer about the smokey burnouts and very much about the cost of...
