Average 750 miles per year. What's the least expensive oil and filter to use for 1970 440?

Hi. I bought an abused and forgotten about 300 Hurst and did a low budget "restoration". I thought engine would need a rebuild soon, so I usually bought whatever oil and filter was on sale..... but 20 yrs later its still going, starts great and runs pretty smooth. I put about 500-750 miles a...

    Popping through exhaust on acceleration

Mine was popping due to an overheated coil. Ran great when cold or short trips. Noticed on highway once day, pedal became more sensative, like it was bogging out each time before it popped. Finally blew off the muffler on the highway with a big "boom"! then engine turned off. Came to a stop...

    Show me your raised whites!....please

Still rolling on the 20+ yr Kellys. Anyone else know of any other raised whites that aren't on here?

Least expensive way to bright headlights?

Are Hella's direct replacements or do they need a conversion kit? I read today on a couple other forums that almost all other halogens made today are junk. GE, Sylvania XV, Wagner - all junk. So bad, that there's no difference between non halogen and halogen other than a whiter light. I...

Least expensive way to bright headlights?

So it seems my headlights might be the originals. They state "Power Beam" in middle with a "2" above and above that "B23". It's weird because I think they still give off a decent light while in the city, but where there's no city lights, they seem dim on the sides, kind of difficult to see...

Why are parts stores part # for 1970 300 440 upper radiator hose wrong?

Thanks for the side pic. Now I get why 20630 might not work on the TNT. Magnums seem to have a little more room. The TNT's engine compartment seem to be more compact. Does your Magnum have a 26 inch radiator? I'm not sure why Chrysler didn't make everything the same with such large cars...

Why are parts stores part # for 1970 300 440 upper radiator hose wrong?

Whoops, missed it...I apologize. After looking at your pic, I'm gonna try 71281 which has more of an OEM look to it. He said he had to trim it so I'm hoping he trimmed it from the thermostat housing. Anyhow, I'll post once I change it. Thanks!

Least expensive way to bright headlights?

From my years working with the government, I've found they and lawyers don't look kindly to most types of modifications. If you get in a wreck even if it wasn't your fault, lawyers love to pick mods apart by asking, "Are you a lighting engineer?", "Are you ASE certified". Most mods, on such...

Why are parts stores part # for 1970 300 440 upper radiator hose wrong?

Anyone have any pictures of hose 60664, 60659 or 60621 on a 440? The 71281 in my original post seems to fit very nicely, however it seems like its pushing down on the heater hose. I can't tell if its tall enough to allow the heater hoses to route underneath. My unknown part # hose barely...

Why are parts stores part # for 1970 300 440 upper radiator hose wrong?

Thanks guys. Only here on this website would I be able to get this info. I'm trying to be proactive for once in my life. My 22yr old napa upper hose is still good, but its getting that spongy feeling. The lower hose feels OK. Regards,

Least expensive way to bright headlights?

So I guess we all in agreement that I should clean up the connections and replace with halogens, then aim them properly. If I'm not happy with that, then rewire directly from battery as Morris states above. Again, thanks to everyone for posting.

Why are parts stores part # for 1970 300 440 upper radiator hose wrong?

I went to 3 parts stores. 1 said they don't make it anymore. 1 gave me Dayco#70592 which doesn't fit and the other said Gates part number is C70592 which looked like the wrong part# so I didn't order it. The only help I found was this picture in another forum with someone that put a 440 in...

    My Hurst project

Wow, you're going all the way. Cool. I did mine the amateur backyard mechanic way fixing stuff without tearing it down.... and on a shoestring budget. I got it on Ebay with winning bid of $1000 in 2003. A few things still aren't perfect and I'm kind of still working on it, oh well. Keep...

Least expensive way to bright headlights?

I didn't realize I'd get so many good posts. Thanks for all the help. I'll post the difference once I get into it. I took a quick pic. I'll clean them as you guys said but I don't think it looks too bad for 54yrs old. Doesn't Halogen consume much more power? I'm not sure my 54 year old...

Least expensive way to bright headlights?

As some of you know, bought my Hurst for $1000 in 2003 sitting over 10yrs in a junkyard and have been slowly restoring it ever since. Front headlights don't look too dim looking at them, but if I'm on a street without street lights, then its difficult to see the road. When I turn on the...
