    Who's in the eclipse zone?

Drove a couple of hours to Muncie which was in the path of total. Apparently local law enforcement was expecting a much larger turnout, but things were calm. Great day, near perfect viewing. In answer to Polara’s question, I was in Portland Oregon in early ‘79. A path of total eclipse passed...

    R.I.P. Joe Flarhety

J Joe Flarhety passed on April 1. Truly funny and by all accounts a nice guy. One of his funniest bits on SCTV was a take-off he and Dave Thomas did of a Hope and Crosby road movie. He did a great Crosby while Thomas nailed Hope. Count Floyd RIP

Not sure I’d want to be in the cockpit of one of those F-4s

The tanker is a KC-135 Q model, configured specifically to refuel the SR-71. The Q differed from the A models internally. The body tanks were plumbed separately from the wing tanks and the right wheel well had two single point fuel receptacles instead of one as on the As. The body tanks would be...

If you look up Kelly’s Heroes on IMDb, it says much of the movie was shot in the former Yugoslavia and that the Tigers were actually Yugoslav T-34s modified to look the part. The giveaways are that the treads are too narrow and the drive sprockets are at the rear instead of the front. Otherwise...

I’m sure a lot of aluminum, carbon fiber, and other lightweight materials go into the construction, but I still don’t see how these ships aren’t top heavy. When you read about warships, length, beam, draught, and weight all figure into seaworthiness. They don’t have to worry about armor plating...

Is anyone else depressed looking at new vehicles?

I’m not depressed so much as I’m bored and disgusted. All the new cars look feel and drive the same. I still read Motor Trend and when they do comparisons, there’s not much left to differentiate anymore. When it’s all said and done, besides the size of the “infotainment screen” the differences...

    Some more classic pictures

My kids have a roaring blown Hemi in their laps, my wife is looking fine with her beehive, and I used a whole tube of Brylcreem so my hair stays put. How cool is that?

When the new ‘69s rolled out in late ‘68, I was there with my Dad. He bought a NO option Newport 4dr hardtop. The hubcaps on my ‘71 (above) are from that car. I don’t know the code, but it was a medium green with a dark green vinyl top.
