Can anyone tell me tell me the correct specifications for the A/C compressor for a 1962 Imperial LaBaron and where I can buy one. I recently purchased an otherwise beautiful car. I am new to Imperials and the identification information has been rubbed off mine.

It's my suspicion that all of the RV2 compressors are functionally "the same". In a Chrysler Factory Service Manual, it noted that while the compressors could be "universal", the oil pans on them are specific to the application. To change it if needed, putting the old oil pan on the replacement compressor. The oil installed in the replacement compressor would need to match the type of "gas" in the system, too.

Just some observations,

Being that far back, IF it is a Chrysler-use "RV2" compressor, it will physically look like a later model RV2 compressor. In the earlier times, there was a "RV" (RV1?) compressor that pre-dates it. There were many Imperials, Cadillacs, and Lincolns sold without factory a/c, so many added under-dash units to the cars. Usually, the compressors used on those installations were of the York or Tecumseh style, which are vertical rather than V-shaped.

Both the Chrysler MasterTech dealership tech training videos, the Chrysler Factory Service Manual, and Chrysler Parts Manual are available for download at www.MyMopar.com (might need to manually input that address).

Another resource for earlier 1960s Chryslers is www.jholst.net (might need to manually input that address, too). This website is more concerned with Chrysler 300 letter cars, but the parts and service information documents can also relate to other Chrysler vehicles of that era. Especially the parts book with its illustrated views of the a/c compressor and its innards.

Hope this might help,
