Morel roller lifters out, Johnson lifters going in.

I have had a few occasions where the Morels have failed to maintain pump-up, and suffered an outright failure in a big block chevy build using morel lifters.

I decided to preemptively swap them out.

After drawing a few pentagrams and consulting an ouji board, I have procured a set of Johnson lifters and will be installing them directly.

Home
the real-deal made in USA ones

Of course this probably means ANOTHER set of custom smith-brothers pushrods.

Sounds like my situation, except I was dealing with Comp flat tapped hydraulic lifters. Defective but Comp made excuses and wouldn't exchange them. Ever since I put together the 383 in my convertible the lifters were always bleeding down and making a clattering noise under the hood. On Saturday I finally got around to installing a new set of (not Comp) lifters and breaking them in on the cam. Successful break-in, the engine sounds quieter, and I was able to tune-out the rocking that it's always had at idle and just off-idle. :)

So this will be the 3rd set you will be using. Comp Cams ,Morel, and now Johnson. If they aren't giving you problems are you replacing them based on a Chevy installation only? Been meaning to ask you what is your rpm range at the drag strip ,shift point and top end.

Yup, comp cams had a linkbar failure. The morels used to be the ones to use, but apparently there are pump issues (although they supposedly have a newer design now) And now the johnsons.

It shifts at 5300-ish

The comp cams link bar failed at idle in town.

The Morels have periodically lost pump after a brief full-throttle rip, talking to Straub, who is a stand-up guy, it is time for a rebuild although they do not have many miles on them.

I have also had a set of morels fail in my Big block Chevy 489 at 280 miles, which they warrantied completely, including the motor at large, and paid for my time, At that point i switched to johnsons in that motor and have a set of johnsons for my 505 chrysler now to avoid any problems.
