    Wood grain steering wheel alternative

Its very easy to correct upside-down steering wheels. Just unbolt the rag-joint coupling, turn the wheel over, then re-attach the coupling. 4 bolts and nuts, plus the shield if you still use it.

    Steering coupler found

Yep to both facts. I've used AMS before. No issues, but I did not want their $200, 50 year old coupler. The $7 Land Rover unit worked just fine after making the mods.

Shaft in rebuilt column not long enough

Wow, this might have to do with the shorter Fury stub frame, but I have no experience with pre-fusie C's, hopefully someone will chime in. What is the length of the rag extension, the part the mates with the PS box? Can you post some pics?

    Steering gear box choices

...Feel and be assured that you'll be happy. Best money you'll ever spend. Having said that, there's lots of other components that make up the steering system. Rag joint biscuit, pot coupler, and the tie rods, idler and Pitman arm. Lots of posts here about the vague navigation of our big cars.

'66 300 Rag Joint. "am I the crazy one?"

...I look at mine and it changes direction at the ragjoint rather than the other (whatever it's called) coupler. there should really be a rag joint at the steering box and a hard u joint where the existing rag joint is. As I understand, the later c bodies were designed with straighter...

Shaft in rebuilt column not long enough

...the 68 Fury column. I still have the original T&C column in parts, but am hoping someone has the answer for getting my shorter shaft and rag joint to reach my box without any major cutting/welding. I began looking for something from Flaming River or like that to attach the two, didn't see...

Hello from the Dark Side (DRK SD 73)

Yes, that does help a lot. I feel a lot of us are sending out our steering boxes to be rebuilt maybe for leaks and an update for firmer feel in a quest for better steering precision on center especially plus the feedback that goes into that equation. The firmer feel helps some but even with...

    hard to find

This looks to be the same place Dave mentioned but on ebay. If you search for rag joint you'll see some other options folks have used such as dorman and Range Rover parts. Personally, I'd just ante up and get this. 1965-73 Plymouth Dodge Chrysler NOS MoPar Steering Rag Joint Coupler | eBay

'66 300 Rag Joint. "am I the crazy one?"

The rag joint is a semi-flexible coupling which might absorb many smaller road shocks before they get to the steering wheel. Possibly even working as a damper for other harmonics in the process. The poly material with time and heat exposure might work for a while, but could possibly fracture...

    1969 Imperial progress thread

The Steering Coupler and Rag Joint is done now. I used the readily available Land Rover NTC3486 Rag Joint. It's a little thicker, but that shouldn't be a problem. Because of that, the spring tension of the ground spring for the horn was a little loose, so I made me a little spacer out of a...

For Sale Parting Out 65 New Yorker Town Sedan

I popped one of the Range Rover rag joint couplers in without slicing it. It moves the steering wheel and column up a additional 5/16", but is otherwise fine. Glad I did that job too, as I had to hold the OLD one together WITH A BIG HOSE CLAMP!

    How Different is a 1968 Newport from a 1966?

MOST REASSURING!! I saw the rag joint coupling. THAT looks identical w the older one, but a collapsible steering column helps. I saw the original Bendix dual pot master cylinder and a brake booster too. Wife and I don't like power brakes. That should be an easy deletion. One of Y'all might...
