I've got and old 300sd with a om617 that I've pondered powering my newport with some day. Haven't got past the pondering stage but nice to see somone might go the same direction.

That's what I'll be looking for as well as the front bracket. I had to offset the alt bolt hole in the rear one I made for temp quite a bit to match the home made front bracket it came with that isn't exactly to spec....lol

I plan to try the local u pull it yards but past experience finding formals there isn't very good. I may still eventually go with the big alt since I will have to buy about the same amount of stuff, if the price is right. the trucks might be the same but I can't think of many late 70s...

They have the exact same kit I just posted for slightly cheaper. Looks like i just need the one small pice behind the alt but I can't find it separately. looks pretty easy to make one with a piece of metal drill bit and tap, or welding a nut to the back. I'll probably try that first as I don't...

I've got service manuals for the 76 newport it came out of and is going back in, skimmed through em but couldn't find anything that would help. maybe I need to take a more detailed look. is a parts book something different? And do you have any links for one?

Another thought, is there any chance there is another bracket that goes behind the alt that the top bolt bolts to instead of directly to the head that I could be missing?

So after looking at the top alt bracket on my engine I'm starting to think what I have is home made as it looks just like the one just posted only it doesn't have the thing in the middle for what I think is for the upper radiator hose, the edges don't look exactly factory cut and the top alt...

Nice pic. I've searched big block mopar pics looking for my setup at the right angle and find almost nothing. That's what I thought i remembered the 100a bracket setup looking like, but wasn't sure and couldn't find a pic myself.

Haven't got a chance to get back to the car yet. I will tonight or tomorrow.

No rear defrost. to give you a better idea if I left the alt off and tried to put the bolt though the bracket it still won't thread into the head.

I'm pretty sure it's the right alt. Regardless what doesn't line up is where on the top of the alt, the bolt goes through the bracket, through the ear on top of the alt then into the head. I guess a pic would explain better, but it's the pivot point and the alt itself has no effect on my problem.

If ya think so I will post a pic after work but the bracket that is on it now is for sure wrong. The previous owner also tried to fix it by adding two relocated holes for the top of the alt to the head., neither of which is in the right spot...lol
