What to Replace when Redoing interior HVAC components?

You can use an ohm meter to test the electrical side of the switches first. Ideally, you want to see zero ohms, but anything over 0.3 ohms and they need to be repaired. If the mode buttons on the selector switch are real stiff, it should come apart to be cleaned and lubed. There may be a...

What to Replace when Redoing interior HVAC components?

IMHO... If it's working, leave it alone. Any "new" reproduction stuff isn't going to be as good. NOS should be better in theory, but realistically NOS stuff is sometimes an expensive crap shoot. If the hoses are still pliable, they will probably last longer than new ones.

    1965 Newport Paint

my local PPG dealer had formulas for my DD1 mist blue (68)...most body shop supply stores only carry one or 2 lines of paint so you may have to shop around...my Axalta dealer didn't have a formula for it but sometimes its a case of "somebody tore that page out of the old book"...there are places...

Wanted Advice On 383 Big Block

Compression readings are relative to the elevation altitude of the vehicle when the test is done. Most of the specs usually indicate "At or near sea level". As long as the readings are within about 20psi, all is good. When I was "worried" about cylinder wear on our '66 Newport 383 2bbl, I...

What to Replace when Redoing interior HVAC components?

Finally got the dash halfway disassembled in my 1965, and found the severed vacuum line that fed to the control block and kept everything from working. While I am in there, I am going to buy a vacuum gun (any suggestions on which one?) and test operation of all the plenum door vacuum actuators...

Are LED headlights a worthwhile upgrade?

Aim and BEAM PATTERN. The ONLY aftermarket LED headlight I've seen with a decent beam pattern is the Holley Retrobrights. Otherwise, check out www.danielsternlighting.com for better headlight solutions. European E-code light housings with good bulbs (all of which are about 55-65 Watts in...

    La 318 engine advice

It's my understanding that "deck height" is cut after the crankshaft main bearing saddle "line hone" is done, as it is that place that all of the upper machine work is based on. Then, each OEM-family block has the "deck height" dimension which is measured from the centerline of the crankshaft...

1971 Chrysler AM 8 track radio wiring question

Agreed. There was a mountain of difference in sound between pre-recorded cassettes and cassettes I recorded on quality tape like Maxell or Memorex. None of the high-quality cassettes I recorded are non-playable. Record companies used the cheapest tape and housing available.

    1965 Newport Paint

Axalta, which I believe is the brand that superseded/bought DuPont's automotive paint business, still has a "single-stage" acrylic enamel paint product. GM used acrylic lacquer paint as Ford and Chrysler used acrylic enamel paint, only. In general, many body shops liked to use acrylic lacquer...

1971 Chrysler AM 8 track radio wiring question

In many respects, the 8-track (and probably the prior 4-track set-up?) had a design flaw where the tape would rub against itself, going different directions, as it ran its loop in the cartridge. The malfunctions probably happened when the tape's lube ran dry? Cassettes were, basically, a mini...
