Yeah I’d definitely prefer to leave the tranny in, mostly because my cherry picker isn’t the best and partly because I’ll be doing this job alone and that’s a lot of mass to have to control solo. But pulling the whole front clip off is definitely an option, front bumper and grill are crunched anyhow
Just be aware that it would be nothing short of a miracle if SMS procures and ships what you need before your container leaves in 3 weeks. Months to years is their usual lead time.
Yes, but the centers on the car for sale are not later Road Wheel centers, they are the A-B-E types with the big scallops around the lugnuts.
Specifically, they are the later A&B ones ('75-newer?) with the replaceable center like in my first picture.
Timken is a good brand, with many parts still made in the USA. I did a rear end rebuild on my '59 DeSoto last year and most of the original parts I removed were Timken. I looked up all of the factory part numbers in the parts book and then used a website to cross those to the Timken numbers to...
Same here re:when I was younger. Though I prefer the ’70-’71 noses, the ’72-’73 Monaco looks better than most any new car. The styling even looks restrained next to some of the evil-looking ones of today—Lexus/Toyota, BMW, and Nissan especially.
If I was that concerned, I would buy a pump, install it weeks before your trip and drive the car to make sure it's ok. Keep the old known good pump as a back up. Or you could install a pump like these and not use it unless the mechanical pump fails. Double check but they are a vein pump and fuel...
Well there is your answer. Do that modification and new pump before you leave town. Modify 2 pumps and keep the spare in the trunk!
I have bought from hot heads, a good place to have around for these cars.
1970 Fury: I took the front bumper, grill, headlights, and radiator support panel off and the engine and trans went in as a unit without losing hood alignment.
However, @SludgeWizard wants to leave the trans in the car. Whatever works.
Thanks. Actually, in searching I found there's a 318 LA fuel pump adapter that HotHeads sells. It's intended for Chrysler Hemi's but will work with the Dodge engine, with some modifications to the fuel pump mating surface.
Part number 2926815. New/unused and tested. Dated 2818 (7 Oct 68). $100 plus shipping from MD.
Thanks for the ad!
***Will trade for an NOS Horn switch, Part 2771534***
Good to think of this now.
If no answer here try the forward look page. Many folks over there smart on the 50's cars. Might be an off the shelf solution.
