The Van Lee Iacocca pitched to Ford before he joined Chrysler

Eaton and Lutz knuckled under to Kirk Kerkorian's threats of a leveraged buy out. Instead of fighting for Chrysler and standing up to Kerkorian, they ran away to Mercedes. Then Lutz bailed out after helping create the disaster. Mercedes used Chrysler as a cash cow and by milking Chysler...

I told them that the shackle is wrong. I need to call back and get credit. I haven't told them about the rest yet.

Rear Shocks and Springs: One Day?

Well, I got a call back from William today over lunch. He told me that they have been super-busy. One piece of bad news at Eaton: they do not sell "offset" shackles. The picture of the correct shackles that I had sent to William, courtesy of @Big_John, was the second time that he was seeing the...

Leaf Spring Sag, 1970 Fury Convertible

@1970FuryConv -- have you received the springs and, if so, have you installed them? It'd be great if you could post exactly which ones you ordered, how long the order took for completion, and what else you got from Eaton (did you get their installation kit, for example). Thanks!

Leaf Spring Sag, 1970 Fury Convertible

I replaced my old saggy springs with new ones from Eaton Detroit Springs. Had the 1 inch arch added to them. Raised the back of my Fury 1.75 inches, exactly where I wanted it to sit. Perfect fit.

    JB Weld, Still the best.

It will keep the gear oil in a Eaton rear end till the next section rots out. Oil pan on a Cummins is only ever a temporary fix, their oil pans are allergic to anything but salt.

    Rear leaf spring shackles

Eaton and ESPO are probably about the same. It wouldn't even surprise me if the springs came from the same place... I think the deciding factor is shipping. Living in the northeast, shipping is going to be cheaper from ESPO. Eaton would have the edge in the midwest. Simple economics. I...

Leaf Spring Sag, 1970 Fury Convertible

Thanks for the link, Michel All the parts are supposed to be OEM spec, stock height. ESPO makes some springs in Mexico. I paid more at Eaton because all Eaton springs are made in Detroit. I wanted to be sure of what I was getting and to try and support American workers in this difficult time...

Leaf Spring Sag, 1970 Fury Convertible

Everyone has their place of preference, thats cool! I'm glad to see you replacing the springs. If you are driving a old car the suspension is shot if it hasn't been upgraded or replaced. Adding a leaf doesn't add height as I mentioned in an earlier post. It doesn't add height because they...

Leaf Spring Sag, 1970 Fury Convertible

Hi Dave. Thanks for the advice. I paid more for the Eaton Springs because all of their springs are made to order in Detroit. ESPO makes some springs in Mexico and some in US, according to their website. New Quality Matched Pair Leaf Springs For Your Car or Light Truck 1940-1990's+ Also...

    Jack it up?

It must be slightly higher than stock. Unfortunately, as I suspected, the header guy cranked it up to make room for them and you can even see little scratches on the tubes where the steering hits at the extremes. Looks like I'm stuck with it.

Leaf Spring Sag, 1970 Fury Convertible

Thank you, this is useful information. Something additional that I'll need to check before I choose between ESPO and Eaton. A few questions: 1. are the front bushings pressed in, or did you need to specify a request for that to be done? 2. did you buy shackles, or are you hoping to re-use...
