Resurrection of my 1970 Chrysler 300 Convertible

That's my personal nightmare for the past month as well... Worst thing so far on my restoration... I'm making an entire new harness tho...

1963 Imperial - Bulkhead Connection and Alternator Upgrade - Please help me understand?

@slantsixdan thanks for all the input, I'll respond in order: AC is a Mopar system, likely installed by the dealer when the car was almost new. To my knowledge, it is wired as it should be. In any case, I almost never use the AC. I like the idea of relays in general, though. I think the AC...

    Speedometer and instrument cluster lights

On most MoPars it leaves the headlight switch on the terminal marked "I" (instruments), almost always an orange wire. Follow that through your harness to the cluster. It may even have a factory splice in your harness somewhere. Take a good look at your wiring diagram to be sure.

courtesy lights - bench seat cars?

My '68 Fury III didn't come with them originally, but many years ago a friend was parting out a '68 VIP that did, so I took the lights and the pink and yellow wiring harness and installed them in my Fury. It is a nice option, especially getting in and out of the car at night.

    Wiring

Perhaps someone did some rewiring. Before pulling everything apart: I would Check continuity from connector at the auto trans 3-prong switch to the fusebox to determine whether you have continuity to power. Then check continuity from the backup light sockets to the other outside terminal of...

Upgrading the electrical system in our 67 Newport Custom

...a tighter spec than the modern ones, OR get breakers for the key circuits to fit too. Mind you, electrical wiring is one of my major specialties and talents, and I realize not every soul is so gifted, but if you love your Mopar, DON'T WASTE YOUR KRONER ON BRAINLESS WIRING HARNESSES! Best...

Upgrading the electrical system in our 67 Newport Custom

Evans Wiring Harnesses should have the under-hood harness and maybe some more. What I've done with other cars is lay the existing wiring out on a piece of plywood and laid out the "pattern" with headless finishing nails. Then unwrap and change one wire at a time and rewrap it with harness...

    Dashboard Woes

Long-time no speak for myself here on the forums. Despite multiple attempts to sell the car for money I just can't seem to get an acceptable offer! Did have one amazing offer from a fellow member here for a trade, but in the end I feel like it comes down to me needing to finish the car if I...

Upgrading the electrical system in our 67 Newport Custom

...wiring and terminals. At the time, nobody else was doing that. In those earlier times, even with the '55-'57 Chevy vehicles, some wiring harness suppliers sold harnesses with the correct color codes, BUT had thinner and shinier insulation on the copper wires. Theoretically correct, but not...

Upgrading the electrical system in our 67 Newport Custom

When you use this method, which seems very good, do u still utilize the firewall milti pin connectors?

What are you working on today??

That is a good approach, especially with more complex wring, or running and terminating new wires. I've used similar to some scale in the past for things of mine. In my pasted case, I had the old harness to go by for where to make branches for some wires, and the car sitting right behind me for...

    Ammeter bypass

Thanks for the replies guys. I did see those videos and the very helpful diagrams, at the moment everything is stock save for a headlight relay harness so until I can get my hands on some 8 gauge wiring, I'll just move the headlight relay feed wire to the alternator. I've cleaned up the bulkhead...

    Ammeter bypass

Oh sorry, I was actually asking about the bulkhead bypass wiring just from the alternator to the ammeter. Was wondering with the stock setup, if I can get away with just 10 gauge wiring. It's a 67 Fury, the lamps are 2x 55/60W and 2x 55W H4 and H1 bulbs respectively. The headlight relay harness...

69 and older voltage regulator vs 1970 and newer in 1969 C-Body

...The voltage regulator pigtail, part number 2983727, was available from Chrysler but now discontinued. A good used one from a scrap wiring harness can be used or new aftermarket is available. Standard Motor Products S-573 is commonly available. A metal retainer, part number 3588348, was also...

69 and older voltage regulator vs 1970 and newer in 1969 C-Body

I have the older style (cannister type) VR on my 69 Fury. My replacement engine wiring harness when car was restored 8-10 years ago was set-up for that style VR. I'm running the round back / single field wire alternator and mopar electronic ignition. I had a solid state VR unit in it that...
