    Timed or Ported Vacuum advance

Like you said, the vacuum gauge can tell us "what" the motor is doing, but it can't "make" the motor do anything. My pre 1972 high compression 440 and 413 engines give best mpg and drivability (off idle and part throttle response) and best full throttle power with ported advance. I set the...

That is a very unusual connection there.

I agree, just don't turn the wheel and go over a parking lot drainage dip at the same time.

Observations on Chryser’s second generation Lean Burn system

All these lean burn deletes work great with the one wire GM HEI ignition distributors available for big and small block Mopar's and with the 2-barrel ($75) and 4-barrel ($200) Ebay Chinese carbs selected for the 1970 cars. The most recent one is a two-barrel 87 318 Fifth Ave that runs just like...

    Dash pad Cracks

I remove the entire dash pad from the car and recover it with "one" layer of the thinnest fiberglass "cloth" available. Then I cover that with the closest texture match vinyl I can find. That's the best I got for you. Good luck trying to preserve or reverse a cracked a dash pad place. I gave up...

    Mystery brake issue.

Yes. At the connection point where the brake lines connect to the master cylinder. They pass pressure out unrestricted but hold 2 to 10 psi from going back in, to keep the shoes from being pulled away from the drum by the shoe springs when you let up on the brakes. The valves are supposed to...

What do you know about the little pressure retainer valves in the master cylinder?

    Question on oil singers

I've had a couple of catastrophic failures of ancient front main seals with no slinger on cars that had a known weeping seal. Decades ago. The oil came a gushing on out of there. Lots of smoke on the exhaust. We didn't think the old beaters were worth the time and effort to replace the seals, so...

    Question on oil singers

The crankshaft timing gear is soaked full time with oil pressure from the front main. Enough that the slinger is needed to protect the seal. If the seal fails with no slinger on a road trip it's going to be a big problem.

    Power steering Box.

Can you clean it up and identify the leak(s) before you pull it out? I haven't had one yet that I couldn't reseal. The FSM provides detailed procedures and tool part numbers for removing the seals. None of the sealing procedures involve messing with the critical fine internal adjustments. A...

    Disc brake conversion kits

Thats like, way super good move on your part. You'll understand how good the first time you go cruising around and matching the flow of suburban traffic (high speed stop and go) with confidence.

Need advice for improving brake performance on my 1963 300 Pacesetter

I was sure it would need a proportioning valve. On other Mopar disc swaps I've used the early 90s Dodge Dakota rear brake pressure unloader that responds to the change in rear ride height under braking. That was the plan for the 64 also if it needed anything. The disc swap for the 64 uses...

Introducing my new-to-me 1961 Newport.....and everything wrong with it.....erm...so far.

For arch matching the brake shoes to the drum I line the drum with stickum air file sandpaper and run the shoe around the drum. Yep, the old steering wheels are an expensive pain. So, like you, I fancied a nice leather wrap. I filled the cracks with resin. Then got a perforated leather cover...

    Lower ball joints

I wouldn't buy them without consulting with them first. If they're absolute about standing behind them then that would be encouraging. I'm renovating and driving a dozen old cars and completely understand not using premium top dollar parts all the time. I do occasionally, but rarely, get a new...
