Help me understand the Formal market. Please!

I guess that's the difference between car collectors and car enthusiasts. I class myself as an enthusiast and don't buy a car with any regard to their collectability or possibility of them appreciating in value. I buy the cars I like. I'm not buying the cars I remember from my childhood, I'm...

Help me understand the Formal market. Please!

I'm always very surprised they are not more collectable for a number of reasons: - Last of the Imperials - Last of the true full size cars - last of the 4 door hard tops - last of the big block passenger cars - The Bluesmobile (those Dodges should be as collectable as the General Lee Chargers)...

Help me understand the Formal market. Please!

For some contrast HERE is around the equivelent Australian car as the Newport. Not original in any sense of the word and would probably take another $20,000 to get to a half decent show car. Original versions of this car could easily run to $30,000 or more. Compare that to a US model with 440...

This one? 1967 Chrysler Newport Coupe in Greenbank QLD FOR SALE - Autotrader.com.au Nice car but the importers here are possibly paying a lot less then someone like me. Many off them have buyers on the ground in the USA and would be paying the same price as you from classified ads and ebay and...

Help me understand the Formal market. Please!

Yes the Fusies are still worth more but the formals make a good entry point for those wanting something different. At the time I imported mine I knew of only one other 76-78 New Yorker in the country but now I know of at least 5 brought in around the same time as well as a couple of Newports...

Help me understand the Formal market. Please!

Look at these ads and then look at who is buying them at these prices. The "ridiculous" priced cars are not being sold to local customers. You'll find these cars if they do sell are finding their way to Europe and Australia. I know because I have bought one. My car I first saw advertised for...

I'm Back. Did you miss me?

I would love to have the money to put my Regal SE on a car carrier and spend 6 months going to all the different car shows. That car is a 1974-75 VJ Valiant

I'm Back. Did you miss me?

Pure luck. We have a local breakfast car run where I am once a month. It starts around 7am and normally all over by 9am. Just happened to have the right conditions for two of these runs as I was leaving for them. The Suburb I live in is right next to a wetland reserve that creates the fog and...

I'm Back. Did you miss me?

Close. Last of the CL model before it built November '77. The CL came out early 1978. Interestingly the Regal SE and New Yorker were both built in the same month and year and both were the top of the range in their respective markets. It gives a great comparison to how different our cars were...

I'm Back. Did you miss me?

Or just lucky with the light. I took these on a street below my house early in the morning. Was able to get same conditions for my other car almost exactly two years later.

I'm Back. Did you miss me?

I've been away from the forums for a while but now back to see what is happening. My New Yorker is still turning heads everywhere she goes and I've seen a lot more of them being brought into Australia. Here's some glamour shots and I'll try to post some more photos from recent car shows. Not...

1978 New Yorker for sale in New Zealand

Wow. I've been away from the forums for a while and just noticed this. That price does seem to be excessive even in that condition. $40,000 NZ would however be reasonable I think given the car's condition and rarity in the NZ market. Having said that the Rockefeller 1970 Imperial limousine...

    Teething troubles

The funniest part is that I drove the last 3km to the show using low gear and the foot brake and while the car was parked and I was trying to organise a tow truck to take me home the car picked up a sponsors choice trophy :wav:
