Drum heat from too tight axle play??

The photo is of the right rear. I was pretty sure that the short shoe was on primary.

Drum heat from too tight axle play??

I have replaced just about everything, including the master. I tried adjusting the rod length, no improvement in heat but pedal travel was aweful so I added length again. Still working on it.

Drum heat from too tight axle play??

since I’m still struggling with similar issues I’m curious, did you change anything or do you figure that the heat issue has subsided due to the shoes ‘wearing in’ and mating to the drums?

The self adjuster was working well, adjusted when I pulled on the cable. I disassembled the problem side tonight, sanded and cleaned the contact points, swapped the cylinder and left the e brake bar out for now. It doesn’t sit well and seems to bind. The shoes seem to slide without binding...

    Another Rear Drum Dragging Thread

Hey Tom, I have officially ruled out hydraulic so back at mechanical. Is there an easy way to back off the parking break without removing the entire setup? The shoes will retract with if forced but the the bar seems tight in either position. Thanks,

    Another Rear Drum Dragging Thread

I pulled the master off the booster and it didn't seem to impact the position of the shoes (when stuck in deployed position). I plan on checking the rod length this weekend while swapping the master. The car is a drum/drum set-up so I assume it only has a safety switch vs prop value.
