As mentioned, a holley 3310 or a quick fuel. The brawler line is very good. You'll notice a definite performance increase.

I think what you're referring to is, get a Hurst shifter mechanism, and they make an inland handle that mounts to it

I assume it isn't a stock original rebuilt replacement. They had a trick mixture screw hiding, that worked In conjunction with the 2 outer screws.
