For Sale 1968 Plymouth Fury III Convertible in Austin, TX -- $16k

Unfortunately, it's time to pass my 1968 Plymouth Fury Convertible along for someone else to enjoy. I can count on multiple smiles and "nice car" every time I take it out. The part that I'll miss the most is taking a whole crowd of family or neighbors out for ice-cream or burgers. I'm just...

Spark plug wires not long enough - 68 Newport 383

To double down on the 'gas' argument -- carburetors are not designed to deal with today's gas. I try and minimize the effect of gas on my tune by always going to the same station and always buying premium. It probably doesn't make a huge difference, but it's one less variable. You should also...

    Reverse lights not working

My 68 has issues with the reverse lights...but that's mainly because the column shift is stretched/misaligned. I can see the reverse lights flash as I shift through P-R-N on my way to D...so it's just my lazy fault that I haven't adjusted the linkage. IIRC, that's very easy, with instructions...

For Sale 1968 Fury vert (eBay) vs. 1968 Fury vert (Craigslist)

I think "car dealers" can pay a 2-300 monthly flat fee to ebay and can post something like 10 cars a month, no penalties for cancellation. We bought an adapted van from a place in Arizona that was using it as "cheap" nationwide advertising. eBay Motors - National Vehicle Subscription Agreement...

For Sale 1968 Fury vert (eBay) vs. 1968 Fury vert (Craigslist)

I'd take my chances on the CL seller. The Ebay guy looks like a dealer, so who knows what flaws are band-aided over...

    For Sale 1968 Chrysler Newport 2D Convertible - NC - $12k

If it were lower miles (134k, yikes!) I think that'd be on the high side of close for a 68 convertible. Where do you see $6000 convertibles?

Where can I find these things for my 68 300 convertable?

I think it's called a tonneau cover. I don't know where to look for one, mine came with one. My interior plastic trim is metallic...what trim are you talking about? A picture is worth a thousand words, you know... :-) Jeff

interesting story on Tesla's possible fate and the electric car in general.....

I agree...but if they don't keep building that infrastructure, how am I going to convert my big block to burn hydrogen when we run out of liquid dinosaurs?

    heater disconnect

Thank you -- mine is not an AC car. Do you have a favorite source for FSM? I found a PDF but I don't think it's the right year...

    heater disconnect

:-D At some point, I will need to redo the dash pad, so there's a chance for me... But in general, not having a heater is not a problem in Austin. Jeff

    heater disconnect

Ok, thanks. Plymouth Heater Core Bypass Caps- Fits 5/8" Hose Fittings- Qty.4- #038 | eBay Should I do anything to dry it out first? I read somewhere that there's a rubber hose that can go bad in there, so I'm hopeful that it's an easier repair than rebuilding the whole core. Jeff

    heater disconnect

Ok, thanks. That did occur to me, but I wanted to see if that was the best way before I tried something. Seems easy enough... My mind jumps directly to the loop getting tangled in the fan and "a cooling system event". Jeff

    heater disconnect

So, my heater box started leaking...badly... While I clean that up, and figure out how/what I want to rebuild here, does anyone have easy instructions on how to tie off the heater so I can use the car? (It's almost prime convertible season here) And while I'm at it...anything wrong with *not*...

interesting story on Tesla's possible fate and the electric car in general.....

Not a rumor, just idle hallway speculation/observation at the office...Apple could buy Tesla easily, and then we'd actually have an AppleCar. And fanboys would buy it, even more than they do now. The only issue that I have with it is the horrific culture clash between those companies...and...

Looking to buy a Fury III, advice on a located car / warning signs?

New top should be about $600, and I think is pretty easy. New paint is significantly more expensive, especially to do it right. I don't think repupholstering is cheap, either. Repairing rust...<sigh> I have the 383, and I'm happy with it...but I always have the smallest engine whenever I go...

Looking to buy a Fury III, advice on a located car / warning signs?

I *will not* call it a midlife crisis car, but I bought a 68 Fury III convertible a couple years ago, and it's been really, really fun. Most people can't tell the difference between a 65 chevelle Z16 and an 82 camaro Z28...but everyone will smile and wave at big Detroit iron with the top down...
