General fuel system health questions (newb edition)

Yeah, and I don't expect to get in alot of fiery race crashes, either. You're running around 6psi on a system that will more than likely be cutoff in that kind of crash than keep pumping into a fire, regardless of any safeguards. Reliability is a more important factor, to normal drivers like me.

General fuel system health questions (newb edition)

"...a fresh tank of gas and really give the system a good cleaning, i.e. components such as the internal filter, by using a product such as...?" No. 50yo gasoline systems manufactured predominantly with mild steel and rubber components inevitably fail in a variety of ways over time, regardless...

To shroud or not to shroud

Automotive heating and cooling is very application-dependent in any well-maintained system, i.e. clean, complete and serviceable. Towing a little popup camper in the mountains on vacay every summer day? Probably need all the cooling you can get. Going down the street to DQ for a cone? No...

Has anyone used an aftermarket sure-grip?

If ur not driving in the snow, etc. and in all reality not driving it much at all, why not just put a lunchbox locker in and be done? No air shock adjustments needed for reliably connecting the tire patch to the road. I put the Powertrax™ in a Duster with a healthy 340 4-speed and it handled...

NOT MINE Not Mine: 1970 Sport Fury

In the timeframe probably around less than 10 years ago, this old man remembers seeing alot more posts with people lobbying for higher prices. I think it goes in cycles.

Gearing change... rear end or transmission?

I put 2.76's in my New Yorker and would not recommend it, unless you're just driving cross-country. I checked the fuel mileage a couple times back when I was driving it regularly and it dropped at least 2 mpg from around 11 to 8-or 9 mpg at best after the gear swap. You're just heating up the...

Need a Radiator for my 73 New Yorker

I could give you a part number, because I've had one sitting in the corner of my garage for 10 years waiting for the New Yorker to spring a leak. But I didn't know the Imperial rads were that different. I think there's a thread here somewhere from years ago where I got the idea to start with...

    gas turning to varnish

My new Yorker's had the same tank of gas in it for at least five years. I topped it up once a couple years ago, IIRC. I'm pretty severely disabled, so I haven't done much with it lately, except to take it down off the lift every so often when I need to use that for something else. Hasn't...

    Transmission problems

Sorry to hear ur 60-year-old car needs trans work. I really like the 727s. The one in my New Yorker is still going, even after I worked on it. ;-) Good luck.

    Chrysler Big Block redline??

Similar setup in my '71 is the same way, still chirping 2nd at 65-70mph with a little over 90k on the clock. 2.76 gears, HP440, 727 w/TransGo kit. But it's a freakin' gas hog.

Fuel dripping from EVAP cannister - end of my rope

One of these days soon I will get off my arse and get that Chrysler carb in front of me (again) and maybe do some old school driving again this summer. Maybe.

    Where is the fuel going??

This is why I ditched the stocker and went to an electric fuel pump many years ago. No good ever came of those diaphragm pumps - cheap junk.

Yeah, you drive torque - what gets you going. I actually prefer diesels for that main reason - just more fun to drive. Race horsepower.
