In a quasi related but funny anecdote, my son-in-law and my daughter borrowed my Hurst to take to a cruise night last Friday. They reported to me upon returning that my high beams were not working. Turns out he was stepping on the 'other' dimmer switch which controls the signal seeking radio...
My now-55 year old 70 300 Hurst with TNT motor lives in TX and has the fuel filter in the stock location with no issues of drivability. Since it barely gets 2000 miles per year, the 'simple maintenance' of replacing it and its associated rubber lines happens about once ever 10 years, whether it...
Since you only need to change oil infrequently, I'd go the other route and not go cheap, but rather the best you can get. I'd give the engine Valvoline VR-1 20w50 with the extra ZD DP whenever I changed it. I'm not sure what the best filter is anymore. I grew up using PH-8A Fram, but I think...
There is/was a Ranco valve repair kit available at NAPA about 5 or 6 years ago when I bought one. Really cheap, but you must remove the valve from the car (removing glovebox first helps) and then carefully pry tabs up to dismantle the valve to replace the rubber parts inside.
10 clicks sounds excessive. I would back off only until no drag is felt, then maybe tighten by a click or two. Very slight drag is ok, as long as it is even on both sides.
Since you are from the PNW, I'd also suggest contacting AAJ Brakes. They do lots of bolt on disc brake conversions...
Congrats! My wife drove a 62 300 4 door hardtop for a decade or so when we were first married.
122" wheelbase instead of the NYer 126" means it's easier to find parts for the front of that car than if it was a NYer. Nice riding/handling cars. After the 300, she had a NYer wagon with power...
I have yet to find any combination of primer/color high heat products that maintain their orange color on my valve covers or the painted intake crossover area on my TNT equipped 70 Hurst. Maybe powder coating would work if there was such a thing as the right color. I try to find nicely...
Oh my goodness you guys are making me feel old (actually, I'm about to turn 70).
Has Frank actually been gone since 2014? I still remember his space(s) at Carlisle. I don't think I ever bought anything from him, but always went to drool over his inventory. Prices were just prohibitively high...

Back in the day, the usual failure mode was caused by people starting the car in the driveway or garage by tapping the gas pedal, setting the automatic choke and fast idle, and then pushing the reverse button before blipping the throttle to bring the idle down first. This resulted in...
you are correct. The door sticker date is 6/70. Build sheet and fender tag are somewhat difficult to photograph, but appear to say the following:

The S.O. for the car is 125-CC-J99788 (on window sticker). Vehicle order number on the Broadcast sheet says 125J99788. After Mr. Rhodes passed, the car was sold to fellow Colorado resident Howard Long of Golden, CO. in 1989. I purchased the car from Howard in 2000. I have pretty much every...
I was unaware of your registry. I have CM23UOC226728, which has console, tilt-telescopic column with rim blow, and AM/FM search tune radio. Originally sold out of Griffith Motors in Denver Colorado to Richard and Betty Rhodes on 12/3/1970. They traded a 67 Plymouth 2dr hardtop.
Hopefully this car at this price can help a younger enthusiast get into the hobby for reasonable money. If I was just starting out today, I might never get involved at what some of the 'entry level' asking prices are.
I agree with comments on dual exhaust and 4bbl carb, but would not wasted time or money on heads as you're still stuck with the log type exhaust manifolds holding back on breathing. It's not a crossram 300J from 63 with appropriate cast iron headers, so just have fun with the least intrusive...
There's a place called Van's automotive in WI that has some stuff, and JC Auto Restoration in WA. Also dpmotorparts.com, Andy Bernbaum, some other vendors in Hemmings. Pat Walsh I think is listed in Hemmings, based in MA.

On a 62 Sport, there are two options I like. One is AAJ Brakes, the other is to take the more modern self adjusting/single wheel cylinder set up off a 63 Chrysler. Still drum brakes, but easier to service and setup than the dual cylinder system.
