    Trunk divider

Can you let me know who is making them for a 2dr. Newport? Curious if it's cheap enough to not try to make my own.

    Trunk divider

So, a question while I got the seats out. A lot of the old existing seam sealer is off in chunks. Good idea to paint it back on for a summer cruiser? Doesn't drive in the rain or snow anymore. If yes, just the brushable stuff you can get at the corner auto parts store?

Oh never mind. Looks like there is real soft cardboard. I guess I've got a new project.

    Trunk divider

Had to pull the back seat of the '70 2dr to get access to the trunk. The trunk divider seems to be a piece of felt? taped on with 3" black tape. Is this original or did the original owner do some work back here?

    Exhaust advice

Good stuff, guys. Thanks! The valve cover gaskets are relatively new, but I'll certainly check it out. The smoke is coming from the back nearest the firewall, so Hopefully its one of the things mentioned. I'll report back.

Now that I'm thinking about it, the noise isn't THAT bad but there's a lot of smoke coming from under the manifold. It doesn't smell like coolant or oil, but maybe its burning something off? Thanks for the ideas. I'll play with it this weekend and let you know what I find.

    Exhaust advice

Good day! Got a '70 Newport Custom 2dr HT. 2bbl Holley 383. Looks like someone did a Waldron's stainless dual exhaust about 25-30 years ago. It looks (and smells) like Ive got a crack in the passenger side exhaust manifold. Any reason to replace with other than OEM cast iron? It's just a...

You know, that kinda what I was thinking. I'm going to have to figure out how to test that. Thank you!

Do my damnedest to keep Chinese parts out of my cars. My understanding with the Ehrenberg parts is they are made here. So, new coil, new ECU and new distributor. I'll try switching things out to see if I can find the bad one. Don't know how I can test the pickup, though.

Thanks! Will do. Gonna be a few weeks, it's take the youngest daughter to college week. Then, no kids! Lots of time for Newports! I appreciate all the ideas. I'm a self-taught tinkerer, never had anyone to work on stuff with. I can do the work, but my lack of experience sure shows in...

Thanks for all the suggestions. It's a brand new fuel pump as of last summer. when I crank it, gas comes through in a steady stream. Just checked the carb - blew it out, checked the float, etc. The distributor is brand new. How would I check for spark as its dying? As far as the brand, I...

I wonder if its not the carb. Its getting gas, and I blew everything out with compressed air, but I've got the original 2bbl Holley on it that nobody likes. Maybe just time to replace?

Something to consider, Mr. C. Thanks. I don't know why it won't start up again, though, unless I fiddle with timing.

the voltages, yes. I only have an old Craftsman timing light. Over the #1 plug not self powered. How would I use that?
