    Rattle From Front End

The left motor mount seems to need replacing. The rubber is very cracked and the engine jumps up on the left side when I perform the test Xenon recommend. I'll replace that first and see if the problem goes away. I'll take a look at the strut rods and bushings when I'm replacing the mount.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I didn't even think about checking the motor mounts. That's a good idea.

    Rattle From Front End

My Newport has developed a rattle/clunking noise in the driver's side front end when accelerating. It always happens when accelerating. Bumps don't seem to cause the rattle. It started after I did some hard braking. Any weak points in the front suspension system that I should check first...

    Leaking New Brake Cylinders

I finally got some time to work on this again last weekend. A work friend gave me his star adjuster tool and I used that to adjusted the brakes. They needed a lot of adjustment. This brought the brake pedal up quite a bit and the car seems to be stopping really well however I can't get the...

    Leaking New Brake Cylinders

Cool, thanks for the suggestions guys! I'll check the shoe adjustments first. If that's not the problem I'll try bleeding the system some more.

    Leaking New Brake Cylinders

Update... I ordered all new wheel cylinders and master cylinder from Craig @ Mobile Parts. (Thanks Craig!) Got them installed, bled, and all the pads adjusted. There is a noticeable difference in how the car stops now. It's much less grabby and feels much better. It seems to stop alright but...

    Leaking New Brake Cylinders

Thanks everyone for the help. I just placed an order with Craig @mobileparts for new wheel cylinders and a master cylinder. I'm looking forward to getting my Newport back on the road soon!

    Leaking New Brake Cylinders

I've been chasing my tail with my brakes since I bought my '68 Newport. The hydraulics were shot when I bought it so I bought and installed all new cylinders and lines. Since then I haven't been able to get the brakes to work correctly. The master has been slowly losing fluid from the front...

@Ghostultramarine that would be great if you'd send me photos of those pages. I'm sure they'd help. Thank you!

    Low, Touchy Brake Pedal

The front brake fluid reservoir is essential empty. I'm guessing this is my problem. Either the shop I brought it to to bleed the system bled it empty or I have a leak somewhere. The weird thing is the front brakes are still working even with the empty reservoir. The pedal doesn't build up...

    Low, Touchy Brake Pedal

Ok, so I feel a little stupid right now. Today I did some of the things you guys suggested. I jacked up the front wheels to check the brake adjustment. Both front brakes were dragging slightly off and on so I didn't bother adjusting them. They still didn't engage until the pedal was almost to...

    Low, Touchy Brake Pedal

Thanks for the advice guys! I'll have some time tomorrow to check to make sure the brakes are adjusted properly at all four wheels. Then I'll check the rod. Sounds like that's the culprit. I'll report back what I find.

    Low, Touchy Brake Pedal

Hi All, I've been going though the brakes on my '68 Newport and finally have them working to the point that I can drive it. I've replaced all the cylinders including the master along with the brake lines. I haven't replaced the drums, shoes (including hardware), and brake booster. The problem...

Hello, I was told that you're the guy to get quality parts from. My mechanic tells me that the grabbing I'm getting from my brakes is from the drums and shoes being contaminated and that I should get new drums and shoes. Would you recommend replacing the drums or can they be resurfaced? Also...

Oh, also I'll make sure to contact Craig@mobileparts next time instead of buying the cheap aftermarket parts!

    Help Needed With Brakes

Thank you everyone for the suggestions! I think I'll put the cylinder on with the 8mm bleeder and try the deep socket. This may be a dumb question but do you still use a clear tube on the end of the bleeder while using the socket or do you just use the socket to break it loose and then use a...

    Help Needed With Brakes

Here are a couple of pics of the clearance issue. You can see that there's not much room between the bleeder and the suspension piece (steering knuckle?). I can just sneak the closed end of the 7mm wrench over. I don't think there would be enough room to get the closed end of an 8mm wrench...

    Help Needed With Brakes

Hello everyone, I'm replacing all the brake lines, master cylinder, and all four wheel cylinders on my '68 Newport Custom which I just bought late last year. I've run into problem after problem and am at the end of my patience with this project. Hoping that someone out there may have done...
