rebuilt 301 vibrates at around 3k RPM or 40 mph

I don't think the valves would cause any vibrations. Maybe some clicking noise, but that should be all. Aside from the ball and trunnion and the rear universal joint, maybe the drive shaft has a slight bend or is out of balance.

This rubber trunk mat available for my 57 Belvedere?

The trunk mats were reproduced but years ago. The one in my car is original and about 85% intact. The rubber turns as hard as a rock after so many years and they get extremely brittle. I will try to get some pictures this weekend so you can see what it should look like. I would buy a repro. if...

I need to replace floor pans for a 1961 Dart Pioneer 2 door hardtop

One of the things that is nice about this forum is that you can get good honest answers. It can save people money and aggravation.

    1958 Plymouth Belvedere

Back around 1965 my cousin had a 58 Plymouth with a 318 2 barrel. It had over 100,000 miles on it, and it smoked out of the valve cover breather. An older mechanic told us to remove the valve covers and use a wire hanger to open up the oil return passages in the heads. We did it and it worked...

    1958 Plymouth Belvedere

What are your plans with this engine? If you are looking to make more horsepower and are going to do some power modifications, then I would say that the oil pressure is marginal for that usage. If you just plan on driving it normally then the pressure should be good. You can drop the pan with...

    57 Plymouth Savoy

I have Lincoln rotors and GM calipers on the Econoline axel on my 57. They have worked great for about 20 years. One of the Barracuda E bodies we have still has factory drums on it. I keep them in good shape, and it actually stops really good. Drums, when working properly are nowhere as bad as...

1958 Plymouth 318 - four barrel rebuild kit??

Looking at your original comments, if the car runs well, why do you want to rebuild the carb?

1958 Plymouth 318 - four barrel rebuild kit??

Kantor has the correct ones, but they are not cheap. I remember rebuilding these back in the sixties. The cost then was about what a Big Mac is today.

Removed the many years old seat covers, here's what I found, front seat too!

You can easily add some new foam to the seat bottoms. I had a 4 door sedan in the sixties with that seat pattern. You got a new interior by just removing the old covers, great! The car is shaping up.

    57 Plymouth Savoy

The car is really shaping up. The door panels are flat, and you can make new ones with a little work. I did that on one of the cars I had. The paint looks good overall. I'd buff it to get it cleaned up and maybe repaint the roof. I've always liked these cars. I'm not a fan of the "Christine"...

    57 Plymouth Savoy

Those wheel covers look great. I always used the cork gaskets on the poly engines I had. I would use some spray gasket on the cork to stick them on the valve covers. It made it easier to put them on and get a good seal.

    57 Plymouth Savoy

I would sand it, prime it and paint it before putting the windshield back in. It looks like surface rust. As far as the transmission, there is a good chance that it was not drilled for a standard transmission. I've had quite a few 1957/1958 Plymouths with 301/318 polys and none of the ones I had...

    57 Plymouth Savoy

When I converted to discs on the 58 hardtop I had, I was told that they didn't fit. It is nice to know that they do. It would have made it easier to find the parts I needed at the time. I have discs on my 57 for about 20 years now but I have an Econoline axle on the front, so it is a different...

1958 Plymouth Hubcaps - What is a fair price? Why so hard to find?

1957 Plymouth wheel covers were used by lots of people in the 50's and 60's on mild customs and plain street cars. Tom Hoover of Hemi fame used them on his car in the late 60's to early 70's. The 1958 ones were never popular, and lots were discarded. Now with the Christine phase, the people...

Reason timing is different depending on distributor part #?

I think you are okay using that distributor. I would go with a little more advance than 4 degrees. How does it run when you have it set at 8 degrees? On a Poly 301 I would use 10 degrees of advance.

Safest lube for gas tank O ring?

57/58 Plymouth 2 door hardtops have a unique roof that is not shared with any others. They are not that easy to find and many have been turned into "Christines". 2 door and 4 door sedans have the same roof. a 4 door sedan could be converted to a 2 door sedan with some cutting and welding and 2...

    Tire pressure?

You said you have thirty pounds in them now. I would try going up a couple of pounds at a time and see how you like it. I've had several 57 and 58 Plymouths with new radials, and I found that 30 to 32 pounds usually worked fine.
