Check the timing!!!! If somebody adjusted the timing before the chain swap it is most likely advanced with the new chain and no more slop letting the cam and distributor run retarded.

These late model smog motors need the heat to vaporize the lean mixture. If the intake gets too cold these engines will buck and surge. Also make sure the air cleaner hot air system is working.

Cast iron manifold should not require the paper gaskets. Use Felpro brush tack on mating surfaces by the ports and torque it down. The "Loomnum" manifolds move around a lot more than iron.
