The Red/White/blue filters were a recreation of the over the parts counter filters from the early 70's. Buy a good filter and blast it with some paint.

78 NYB Holley Sniper install.. the end of my lean burn fun

Local guy is fighting the same issues on a Firebird. I made a bit of a smartass suggestion that he should keep some tin foil handy. He reached in the back seat and pulled out a roll of Reynolds Wrap. He's been wrapping everything he can think of to get it to run better.

Is 10W30 oil hard to find where you are?

Very hard to find 10W30 conventional at the discount stores around here. Everything is a straight synthetic or blend. Parts stores still seem the have it, but that gets mighty pricey. Conventional oils have a shelf life of about 6 months(per phone conversation I had with a chemical engineer at...

    Carb Question

These late model smog motors need the heat to vaporize the lean mixture. If the intake gets too cold these engines will buck and surge. Also make sure the air cleaner hot air system is working.

Hardened valve seats for iron heads; worth it or not?

How long will you be keeping the engine? I did mine because I did not want to have the seats be a possible failure point in the future. 30 years later the engine is still doing well.

400 Big Block Intake Manifold Gaskets... or not?

Cast iron manifold should not require the paper gaskets. Use Felpro brush tack on mating surfaces by the ports and torque it down. The "Loomnum" manifolds move around a lot more than iron. The paper gaskets were for the early 6Pak manifolds before they switched those to iron construction. If you...
