    Rod Cap Reinstall Alignment

Why the need to replace the rod bearings in the first place? Excessive wear/clearance, gouging, erosion, bell ended?

Adding drain plug to gas tank

I would put the flange on the inside with the bung facing out, then solder it. Use hardware with pipe threads, no gasket necessary. 1/4 or 3/8" max. You don't want it to drain too fast.

    383 block flushing

I'd try regular Evap-o-rust or Rust-911 in there for a week, flush, and repeat. The Therm-o-cure says that it's non-corrosive, this is a lie? I know that the "regular" Evap-o-rust uses a chelation type of chemistry to separate the oxides from the metal, without acids. It turns black with use...

    Wrong size air filter O_O

Interesting that the Dodge air cleaner would be 3/4" shorter than the NY.... lower hood perhaps?

Oh crap, I just changed my oil with a low-zinc oil, what should I do?

BITOG is an excellent site, I need to get back in there and go down the rabbit hole once again. Lots of knowledge to be gained, with patience.

Oh crap, I just changed my oil with a low-zinc oil, what should I do?

@bronze turbine no need to panic, and I wouldn't do anything. While Delo isn't ideal for gas engines I wouldn't worry about the zinc. I sometimes put the Zinc concentrate additive into my truck's motor (flathead 6) but never worry about it on the V8s. For increasing the zinc specifically, I...

    Wrong size air filter O_O

Yup that would fit. Napa in town has a new filter waiting for me behind the counter. I think it's a Napa-branded Baldwin. Picking up today. What air cleaner housing does the 42044 / 2.75" high element fit?

    Wrong size air filter O_O

Thanks.... Also listed for that same application is the bunk filter that I ended up with: WIX 42044 Info Fits 2Bbl or Base Model Engine VIN G; Custom Engine VIN G Could this be for an LA engine?

    Wrong size air filter O_O

I should have checked the forum before ordering a NAPA Gold 2044 air filter, but thought I would be safe with such an idiot proof part. Well, this one is also 2.75" tall and too short for the housing (1971 w/ 440). The only others that NAPA and Rockauto show are FRAM CA127 (out of stock) and...

Couple of questions about engine products

I went through plugs often with my 73 NY, due to oil getting past the rings. I used Autolites because they were cheap and I went through a lot of them, but started cleaning the plugs at my friend's shop with the jet wash and glass bead blast cabinet. They came out like new. I would never use a...

    Frost plug replacement

Dang... The disc style plugs were used on the flat head 6s. Also available in brass.... they work well.

What type of ATF to use in a standard?

Tremec trannys use Dextron ATF, like the T5.... for context. If you're still unsure which tranny fluid to use, fill it up with Bud Light.

    Picking a new torque converter

Most of the converter mass is still spinning in neutral, so perhaps you have a driveshaft or u-joint issue and not the TC....or loose bolt somewhere. Trying to piece together the story from these posts... Does this mean that your machinist balanced the rotating assembly with a random TC and...

    727 rebuild options

The Transgo TF-SC kit is as mild as they come and the only one I would consider for a C-body. It has very detailed instructions and comes with everything that's needed. I wouldn't mess with anything from the big name catalog sites...

    727 rebuild options

Alternatives... 1a) Buy a rebuilt 727 and converter from the 727 Specialist (Keith). He installs his own shift kit and he'll ship it to you. 727Specialist 2a) If you do it yourself, recommend installing a shift kit to improve the common complaints of the 727 (overlapping shifts, converter...

Is 10W30 oil hard to find where you are?

The more I research, the more I think that the assumption of needing a higher concentration of ZDDP is a little overrated for older engines. Every engine is different though. Only way to tell is with empirical data. Send in your oil sample to Blackstone labs. Do it with and without ZDDP additive...

Is 10W30 oil hard to find where you are?

10W-30 in plentiful supply in NAPA brand (valvoline) and others at my local NAPA, Wal-Mart, O'Kragen, and others....in 5-qt containers. Straight 30 grade oil began fading out in the 00s from my observation. I used to use straight 30 back in the 90s....

Is 10W30 oil hard to find where you are?

Despite having higher Zn and P content, racing oil does not have the additives and detergents optimal for street use, is not designed to operate in the high variation in temperatures of a street car, and is not made for use in an extended change interval (3000+ miles), so I caution against using...
