Bolt Size - Engine Lift Points

If you are going to bolt a chain on horizontally, please use a 3/8 hole. That sideways shear pressure is a lot on a bolt. They are designed to be used in tension, where they're strongest, not in shear.

Bolt Size - Engine Lift Points

Most holes on the block are 3/8. Carb goes on 5/16 Studs. Never choose a block or head hole with no "meat" above it. The bolt can tear out due to the sideways pressure, and thin wall. A teenage me learned this.

Small block 727 transmission cooler lines

Whenever you are trying to cool a hot oil or fluid in a heat exchanger, where the other side is water- The rule of thumb is that you want the hot oil flow to run in the direction counter to the direction of the water flow along side of it. If hot oil flows "left to right", the water flow along...

    Engine Paint: Chrysler Blue

Double check that you've shaken it really really well. The first few squirts can come out almost any color. What's in the can should match the cap color. It happened to me. Our 1970 valve covers are not that old green blue. I tried that too. Ended up with the "1972" chrysler blue. I used...

Anyone jack up half a car?

Thought about backing the car onto the ramps. Don't know if I could easily get to the front of the muffler that way.

Anyone jack up half a car?

I bought a Walker 17827 Sound FX. (I hope) it's an exact replacement. Yes, obviously chock the other two wheels.

Anyone jack up half a car?

No, just paranoid. Trying to keep my project moving forward. Breaking stuff during repairs throws me for a loss.

Anyone jack up half a car?

It crossed my mind if it would be possible to jack half the car. I need to change the muffler, which is on passenger side. Thought about jacking in the middle of the pass side frame rail, and putting stands next to pass side wheels (on frame). This would leave the weight, and pressure on the...

    1969-70 440 carburetor needed

There was someone on here a while back that had a pile of carburetor cores for sale. Among those was a 4160, exactly the same as the one on my 1970 440.

...in my Chrysler, it's as big as a whale........

This is harder than it looks- Napa has no old books, only a computer with no exhaust parts. Rock auto has no muffler listing by application. Midas wants the car to come in, and they will build a custom system. (For probably $1000). When they say length "overall", is that the "body" dimension...

...in my Chrysler, it's as big as a whale........

Mine was caused by a crummy condenser. Whenever you see an old condenser that "looks good", throw it out.

...in my Chrysler, it's as big as a whale........

My muffler, that is. The car backfired, neighbor came running out in some kind of "tactical stance", ready for battle. My oval muffler is now round. Can't seem to find a replacement listing online. I think it's maybe 25" long plus collars, 2 1/4 pipes, offset inlet, center outlet. "Standard...

My engine is being a jerk!

That will happen, in a roundabout way. Radiator is going to the shop for re core and complete service. The existing “cut and repaired” lines are being replaced with new stainless tubes.

My engine is being a jerk!

Since it had been sitting about a week, I went and started the car yesterday (in park). Just for kicks, I pulled the transmission dipstick. The level was waaaaay high, like 3 inches high. The word "check..." on the dipstick was covered. I put the car into neutral, and also selected all...

Cloyes C3044 looks to be it. Single bolt, double roller set. Anyone have a favorite front cover gasket set? Victor Reinz, I think.

    Which timing chain set?

Are you saying the cam has both a three bolt pattern and a single bolt pattern? Or is it one or the other?
